Looking straight down on the archer, think of the head as the center of a clock where the little hand and the big hand meet. Let the big hand (bow arm) point to 12, and the little hand (elbow of drawing arm) point to 6.

In other words the elbow, arrow and bow hand are all in the same line when veiwed from overhead.

You got it Douglas.."Looking straight down on the archer, think of the head as the center of a clock where the little hand and the big hand meet. Let the big hand (bow arm) point to 12, and the little hand (elbow of drawing arm) point to 6.
"

My *+* sign comments were directed to the alignment of this pics.  Other's then related to this alignment as a "T", and that added to the confusion. Easier to find now on the "Form Consolidation Pics" thread.

Sounds like it is geting cleared up on the 12-6 thing....but just to be sure...

I WAS refering to a top view on that point to indicate a full draw and in line form because you can short draw a bow and still look in line (9&3) from the side.

The 9 & 3 alignment was for a side view and lends itself to the + or T descriptions of stance.  It shows high/low orientation of the bow arm and string elbow.

Whew!  I guess that makes sense.

I'm gonna go look for that "consolidation thread" mentioned now...

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Exactlly Dave,...that's why I used 9 to 3 on the profile, and to keep it from being confusing, use the 12 to 6 on the overhead.....but as you see...Murphy took over   :D

It always amazes me how I can hear something said just slightly different and suddenly the light bulb starts coming on and you finally understand a concept like back tension much better. Pretty neat.

I understand the "+" or "T" type of stance when shooting from a level surface, but when shooting at a sharp downward angle does this concept still apply? If so, how is it done?

This may have already been covered in the other forum and I just didn't get that far.
If so just direct me to what page.

Many thanks to those who have posted on these two threads.

Dave,

I tried this technique tonight after spending some time drawing at a corner in my basement with my eyes closed. When I went outside to shoot the combination of focusing on my elbow and my feet made for a pretty nice sight picture down the arrow. It definitely helps.

Chris,

The + or T refers only to the upper body.

Think of your hips and legs as a universal swivel and your upper body as a fixed, solid object.  The upper part of the body should be as close to the same as possible for every shot no matter the incline/decline or left right relation.
