Anybody want to mentor a new hunter near coastal MS?
« on: April 05, 2018, 08:22:45 PM »
Hi all,

I am living in the Gulfport area, and I am looking for a hunting mentor for whitetail, hog, or realistically any other game as well. I am fairly new to archery (shot my first bow, a homemade selfbow, about 5 months ago).

A bit of information about me:
  • I have never been hunting before and do not know any hunters (grew up in an anti-gun, anti-hunting family)
  • I'm a Male in my young 30s
  • I plan to hunt from the ground (I don't own a treestand and would prefer to not invest in one until I have done a few hunts)
  • I've done a lot of research on whitetail behavior and scouting
  • I've done a bit of scouting in De Soto National Forest, but its proven difficult to carryover what I have read into the field.
  • I have a decent amount of bushcraft experience (albeit in CO, which is a significantly different environment)
  • I would rather learn more and not shoot an animal than get a kill and learn little.

Thanks ahead of time!
