Good luck Todd.

Gotta do some Christmas shopping with my wife...or I should say I WANT to do some shopping with her.

Maybe get my feet on the ground on a new piece of ground I just got access to.

So much to do...

Hunted yesterday morning and evening. No deer but stayed comfortable with my TwoTracks wool vest, sure do like it. Moved my pop-up to be ready for after muzzleloader season. Lots of sign and if the snow doesn't get too deep by then I expect some exciting hunts those last 2 weeks in December.

No snow here, but the ground is frozen now.

Was out this evening with my fifteen yr old.

Just plain cold with the wind. It was steady from the NW.

Comfortably perched in my Summit Climber the sun went down as the cold crept through my clothes.
I sat hoping my son wasn`t too cold.

About fifteen minutes before the end of legal time, I heard ice breaking back in the thicket.
The wind concealed any other noise, but I was at full alert. Sure enough as light was fading, I could make out the outline of a deer...just one.

He picked his way very carefully by my position.
Too dark. From what I could tell, he was limping badly. It was just too dark...I`m sure past legal time.

My son passed a button buck that was all alone.
I hope he gets with some other deer, because the coyotes will get him for sure.

I was shivering when I got back on the ground. I`m still cold.

Felt good to listen to the wind.

Strong men hunt in cold of December with a Bow Don. I love it too.

My days off are coming up and I am going to spend some more quality time in the woods. I have missed it terribly.
No hunter should feel guilty for killing a deer that doesnt meet someone else's expectations.

Cold windy and snowy last night. We have about a foot on the ground and still coming down. Had 3 slip through the swamp about 40 yards out and could only see parts of them as they browsed cedar. I love this time of year sitting in a tree.

Got out Fri, Sat, Sun. still no movement and few tracks in the snow. Effects of gun season still apparent. Hoping to hunt a farm with cut corn fields in Bangor this week. Maybe they are heading for food before dark. Definitely not moving around my neck of the woods.

Went out Sat., nothing moving at the farm, did see 5 laying about 35yds from the truck when I came out, were in a very stalkable spot, but owners wife was home, had to pass, she doesn't care for hunting, but is o.k. with bowhunting, just don't think she needs to see it. Todd

I don`t care if I kill another deer, but I would like my kids to have a few more close encounters.

I picked up a used Great Northern Bushbow this summer, and I hunted with it a few times during firearms season. I`m hunting with it exclusively from now until the end of the season.

My Predator is on the rack unstrung, with a quiver full of sharp Magnus heads. Sunday evening was my first "real" bowhunt without my Predator in twelve years.

I carried a home made side quiver in November, and found out how much I like a BOW mounted quiver. Ron and Mike at Huntersniche, had a couple of rubber strap on quivers in stock, and my wife went and picked one up for me. (I live only about twenty five minutes away from them) Christmas came early for me!

Is it immature to be out shooting a longbow in the dark with the aid of a yardlight, in a 25 mph wind and temps in the high teens?   :D

Good luck everyone!

I sure enjoy reading what everyone has to say.

Don, Its not immature to shoot in the dark, cold and wind, a little OCD maybe, but not immature, have to respect a guy that will practice in those conditions, I'm only shooting outside once or twice a week right now, just about everyday I will let a dozen or so fly in the basement, just to keep form correct, Good luck, Todd

Oh my! I hunted yesterday in some of the heaviest snow I've encountered in some time. My cabin is in Van Buren County and they got dumped on. I was in my stand for two hours and it dawned on me that NOTHING was out and about. I slogged back to the cabin, brought in an arm load of firewood and fired up the woodstove and settled in for the remainder of the morning. Sitting there watching the huge lake effect flakes come down is not hunting but it sure seemed like the most enjoyable pursuit, yesterday.December can be a challenge but we never quite know what we'll encounter unless we venture out.I'll be at it again next Monday regardless of the weather because that is just what we do.We hunt and if the Lord blesses us with a quick humane kill, we rejoice.

Vesty, Where in VanBuren?
We have at least 12"+ of snow on the ground in Gr. Junction. Most years they no longer move in my area when the snow gets this deep. Went out cross country skiing last night and found NO tracks on my land. Might need to hunt the big corn fields for the rest of the year.

I had to drive a lady home north of 43 and out west of 40 last night because of some car problems.  They had a lot of snow out there at that time, and I am sure more now.  Probably not as much as out west farther.  My truck was dragging bottom going down their 1/2 mile long drive way, but I think their drive is a little rutted with a high center.  It was still fun to plow through that much fresh snow.

Fremont Archers are starting up their winter league, shooting Weds nights at 6:30. About 120 arrows a night so that should keep me in shape for the rest of the season. Looking forward to hunting this weekend up by Ruby Creek. If the sign isn't good I'll concentrate on my daughter's place, lots of deer there and close to home. Good luck everyone.

Well guys, I'm going for it Monday despite the brutal forecast.I'm hoping my Steger mukluks, layers of wool topped with my Predator snow camo will do the trick. That big bare spot in my freezer is looking bigger by the day.Armed with my Northern Mist Whisper, I'm going forth. I know I can't make game sitting at home as tempting as that is. If I just sounded like an equipment endorsement, I apologize. But hey, we don't mind hearing about what works for one another, do we?

Hunted this morning on private land.

Started out with a slight breeze and a steady, wet snow.
At just about legal time, a few wind gusts began to sway the tree tops. The temperature dropped like a stone. Within an hour of good light, the wind was howling and the snow was coming with determination.

The wind is still howling, and it looks like it will continue for at least the next day.

The clock is ticking.

I hunted in Huron County over the weekend with my cousin and Uncle. We only were able to make it out Saturday evening. I hunted with my Longbow. My uncle saw two does, but could not get a shot off, and my cousin and I saw nothing. My season is over. Final Score: Deer 7 Watson's 0. I think I am going to change my last name to Lions   :biglaugh:  .
