2019 SC Tradgang Hunt
« on: December 17, 2018, 12:33:44 PM »
Would anyone be interested in trying to get a group together to camp and hunt some public land for a few days next season? Any good public land recommendations?

I’m interested. What are you thinking about hunting? There is a lot of good public around.

Deer or maybe pigs...or both lol!...I am fairly new to the area so I am just not sure where a good public spot would be. I moved here from Arkansas, and several tradgangers got together every year and hunted some public land around one of the lakes.

Fants Grove near Clemson might be a good choice. I haven’t hunted there but they have a long archery only season.

There is a lot of good public around here(Charleston county) Francis Marion National Forest is about 250k acres with some camping. Santee Coastal Reserve 23k acres, is bow only and offeres camping, and in areas joins the FMNF. About 30 minutes away is WeeTee it’s 10kplus but has no camping. About 2 hrs away is Woodbury 25k acres and it has camping. I’ve hunted them all a right fair amount and there is good opportunities to be had on all. But, by all means I’m willing to try some in the upstate.

A Low country hunt sounds good. I would imagine the area needs camping. So, that would narrow down the choices.

There is camping available, although limited. Hogs nd deer are both available at most every ems I’ve ever been on. And in good numbers if you are willing to get after them.

Hey i’m New to the forum and new to traditional bow hunting. If i can figure this this stick and string out I would be up for something in the fall. I live in Clemson and hunt Fants Grove often. There are some good deer in Fants it just seems the numbers have been down a little.

I’ve been up to the area around Fonts Grove. I’d like to hunt up there. Welcome to the gang by the way.

A lot of the old SCBA members used to hunt the Bull Island hunt. Been out of the loop a while, but I think they still do.

I would too. There’s lots of good areas to hunt , just deciding on a location and getting folks together is the hard part. Bow only area with camping close by would be nice. Deer and pigs would be even better. I could probably make time for a hunt.

What would be a good bow only area with camping nearby?
