Number of Arrows ?
T-Bell:
Going to RSA for the first time in July :D and I am starting to put together my Arrows for the trip. I'm going after Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala, warthog,Blesbok, Springbok etc. 9 days of hunting. How many arrows do you recommend?
I've got 700gr Hickorys flying nicely, 680 gr carbons working well and want to bring some cedars as well. I'm thinking the heavy arrows for the larger game and the cedars for the impala and smaller game.
Question is how many? I'm thinking 10 Hicks, 10 Carbons and 10 cedars. Does that sound about right?
Seems I'm full of questions - Hopfully when I get back I'll have some good stories to post - :readit:
Thanks - T-Bell

30 arrows should be plenty unless you get crazy when the guineas show up. I usually take 18 - 24 and run out of money before I do arrows.

I had 18 arrows with me and like most people ran out of money as Denny said, before I ran out of arrows. My PH had a habit of keeping my arrows after a kill so I was getting a little concerned towards the end! Travelling to and in S.Africa was a change of pace for me. I'm used to Alaska where most fly out hunts are limited to 50-75lbs for everything. In S.Africa you really don't have those concerns and taking more than enough equipment is o.k. Another nice thing in S. Africa is you don't need a bunch of clothes and can replace that space with equipment. 30 arrows should do it. IMO taking different equipment setups for various size plains game is not a necessity. One combo that you are accurate with is the key.
Have fun!

Ditto to the Denny and Dave's post. I took a couple dozen and a batch of raw materials to make another couple dozen if need be. It was far more than needed and just extra weight to cary.
Dave, How many arrows did our PH get from you? I figured if I shot either way the arrow was gone for good. Miss and it's broken, hit and it goes in the PH's collection, lol.
Good hunting,
Steve

Denny, Just bought the Africa DVD from BW, as usual you guys hit a home run. I went to Ken Beck's bow tuning seminar at Compton last year and enjoyed it, he was very nice to all of us. It was a pleasure watching you all, especially since I had met you, Fred and Ken last year. I was the guy asking about the Warthog shot. This and Vision Quest are now my top two DVD's. What is next? I cannot wait to see another traditional hunting film from you guys.
Thanks,
Bill
