Fall 2019
« on: October 04, 2019, 03:56:27 PM »
Pretty quiet here. Now that the weather has turned we need to see some reports. I hope to get out tonight.  Brady is coming home for leave tomorrow for a few weeks.

10/5 first night out, had a doe and fawn at 15yds feeding.  Some cold day in December I'll regret not finishing up my season on the first day.

No hunting for me yet this year.  Back went out over Labor day weekend and I don't dare walk in the woods yet.  Flat and even surfaces for the time being. Plus the fact that it never stops raining in this God forsaken state!
Maybe do some hunting in a week or so.

Checked out another spot on Sunday and found a fresh scrape. Will set a new stand there as soon as the paint dries. Went last night to a different stand.  Lots of tracks but no deer showed. It is a great stand but it is only about 70 yards from highway 169, all you can hear is traffic.

I've been invited to hunt a new area, closer to home, and I finally decided to make more time for me this year.  I'm hunting from the ground.  Busted at half draw by a big bodied buck early one morning last week.  He didn't have much of a rack.  First saw him at 7 yards.  At 4 yards he turned and was facing me as he calmly ate acorns.  I was wearing my Rancho Safari Shaggie Longcoat.  I think he could hear my heart POUNDING!  As he started to walk away, I was hoping for a quartering away shot at about 10 yards.  BUSTED!  But what an adrenaline rush!!!

I had a similar experience yesterday morning with a doe.  I blew that one.  I should have shot when I first saw her.  I let her get too close. I told my wife I'm not sure I'll ever use a tree stand again. What fun!

Oct 25, buck's are chasing does, and leaving scrapes.  Pre-rut has officially begun here in east central Minnesota.

Yes bucks are chasing.  I noticed it Friday as an 8 point chase a doe in front of my stand.  I got it to stop at ten yards.  :goldtooth:  I will try to post a picture in a day or two.
Reports are good that they are chasing like crazy around our WI lease, too.

I'm doing the same thing. I think we're in crunch time.

Way to go Chad!  I've been seeing quite a few running around. Only chances at does so far.  I'll be getting out quite a bit the next two weeks.

Way to go Chad! I hope you are putting the coyotes up. They are one of the few furs with value this year.

I made the picture black and white to eliminate the blood.

I hunted in Arden Hills Friday and got a small buck.  About 3 yards from the stand, ran about 60 yards and I could see the blood trail all the way from the tree stand.
