Repairing a handle break
« on: April 20, 2008, 12:13:00 PM »
I've just taken a Shag Bark Hickory core with a Madake Bamboo backing bow off the mold. I was trying one of Dean Torges mold designs.  It incorporates a single center post.  (I generally use two center posts, about 4 inches apart.  Anyway, sometime during the setup period the Hickory splintered just under the bamboo backing, (center of the handle).  It is a splinter kind of thing that goes from one side to the other, about 1 inch in length. Suggestions for repair would certainly be appreiciated. As you know, Madake is hard to come by and I do not want to give up on this bow.

Only suggestion I would have would be superglue but you might want to ask Walt Francis, he has a lot of experience with wood bows.  Joseph

Can u buy fiberglass 1" 8oz. tape, soak in smooth on and wrap the area of interst?  Cover with a leather grip and you  may be just fine...

Happy hunting,
