July shoot???
« on: March 01, 2007, 01:36:00 PM »
Hey guys
I can see from your posts that you are planning a shoot in July.
I live next door in Western ND.
Could you post where and when your shoot will be?? and if it is open to non members?
I have a brother that lives in Columbia Falls and could possibly make a vacation out of it.

Brad, the shoot is held a short ways (2 miles?) up Moose Creek from the main Gallatin river.  About 6 miles North of Big Sky.  Second weekend in July.  Come one come all.  Only restriction is no wheels I believe.  Hope to see you and your Bro there.

Thanks Randy
When I was a kid we lived in Bozeman, so I know the area.
Sounds like fun and a fun time of the year to be in Big Sky country.
I'll put it on the calandar and see what we can do.

It is the second week in July and is held at Moose Creek which is 6 miles north of Big Sky if I am not mistaken. Anyways when going from Bozeman to Big Sky you will turn left off the highway and go about 2 miles up the road.  Can't miss it as there will be a tipi set up at the shoot site.  There will be a pig roast either Friday or Saturday and also a Dutch oven cook off one day.  Joseph

HI guys,
Is the shoot July 6th thru 8th or 13th thru 15th?
I am looking forward to this shoot. Sounds like a lot of fun. Is the shoot at a camp ground?
Thank you,

Rusty

Now that it's getting closer, is there any additional info that anyone can provide about this shoot?
It's a bit of a hike for me, but I'm still planning to head out there just want to be prepared and know what to expect.

Brad, some information that was given me by Billy Lewis is: The road to the shoot site is about 6 miles N of the Big Sky cut off rd.  There are a number of lodging options available in & around Big Sky, though I suspect most are pretty pricey with reservations probably being a good idea during the middle of summer tourist season. As for the shoot site itself, the course & camping area are on a large bench that is mostly quite flat with decent footing throughout & very few hills to deal with. If you want to camp, elevation wise camp is over 6000' & reasonably well shaded so the weather is typically not too bad even if it is hot in town.
Hope this helps some that's all I know about it as this will be my 1st time. I am really looking foreward to it. Hope to meet lots of you there. Frank

What day is the dutch oven cook off?  The shoot is the 6-7-8th, right?
So don't wait until you retire to go hunting and fishing.  Don't even wait for your annual vacation.  Go at every opportunity.  Things that appear urgent at the moment may, in the long run, turn out to be far less so.

I'll be heading  off  Friday morning sometime to  help get the course set up,  and I hope  to see some new faces there.   Joseph should be up there already, with his tipi set up.

For those that have never been, this is a real laid-back, fun, family oriented type shoot (some beer may be consumed so be prepared) in a nice camping spot, with  the creek nearby.   The camping area is undeveloped as such so primitive camping is the  rule.  You should have no problem with trailers or motorhomes.   We will have a  porta-potty set up for convenience.

The weather should be nice this weekend....some  fire restrictions are in effect so prepare for that also.   Again, looking forward to seeing everyone up there.  - Mark
