September buck

September 29 at 7 am presented a situation too good to pass up. This 187# 8 pointer walked toward my tree stand with the wind in my favor. As he went behind the white pine branches I had to decide to shoot before he would emerge broadside at 9 yds. My brother, who is dealing with health issues, has not been able to hunt this fall. The night before this hunt he encouraged me to shoot a buck so he could be in on the recovery. As the deer walked out from behind the pine boughs, my 51# Big River longbow was at full draw and anchored. Upon release, my bow arm stayed up, I watched my arrow slip through the spot I starred at like warm butter. The deer ran off at half speed with sounds of brush breaking...seconds later a thump. I look down to see my orange fletched Victory Carbon Trad buried into the base of a white pine. The Zwickey Delta 2 blade in front of a 620 grain 23% FOC arrow was blood soaked. Waiting a half hour, I replay the event over and over. Easy tracking led me 50yds to the 3 1\2 year old. Calling my brother out to track the "unrecovered" buck made it my most memorable deer.
