Hello Fellow Arrow Slingers!
Newbie traditional recurve archer here to say hi and try to meet/network with like-minded people.
My name is Kris. Survivor of 36 years (so far) here on planet Earth. Classified as a human(ish).
I live in Walla Walla and make my living as a 911 Dispatcher. So I'm not entirely sane but as long as the part that tells me when to pee still works I'm good. I also play with fire as a volunteer.
So I just decided this last month to walk over to the archery side of our local shop and start playing with those too. The shop keep did not seem unhappy at this. I bought myself a Martin Cypress Takedown 40# @28". Why did no one tell me this was so fun?....!!!!!
Well, now I'm hooked. I've already shot myself into a trip to Martin Archery for a warranty replacement. Crack opened on the lamination in the middle of the riser. I have a wood drift boat. I know what that leads to when you add water and temperature changes.
And I have broken just a few arrows. The metal support beam on the target at the range is the devil. So I need to get more accurate or make up a guard for the bar of doom!
I've dragged the whole house into my new obsessions. Well, Grandma made it rain bows for the rest of the house. I am able to stay in a dinner plate(ish) sized group at 20 yards. Not counting the occasional aspiring space rocket arrow or cross support sacrifice. So, just wanted to say hi and see who's out there and possibly near me and my crew.
I like to get out and go do things. I dropped over 100 pounds in the last year and I have decided to go deep and try for my first big game takedown. I tried the modern rifle crapshow a couple years ago, no thank you. I'm a surgeon with the shotgun but I like the idea of going all bow. It's quiet, I love quiet, crave it, I need it haha! I work in front 5 screens, 2 keyboards, 3 mice, phone, radio, co-workers. But I do get to tell cops where to go.
So, I have learned in the last year I like hiking in, away from all of it. Not a lot of experience there and I'm the cheap bastard with Walmart gear. Go with what you've got right? I Usually go to fish, but that is looking to SUCK this year.
Looking forward to meeting new people and exploring this archery thing you have all been hiding from me.
