has anybody ever gone solo elk hunting this will be my first time.... Any wisdom

Used to all the time! Still do sometimes. What aspects are you wanting to know about. I don't backpack in, just hike out and back to truck for the day. Just have to carry enough stuff to get elk broke down and hanging in a tree. My day pack can carry a quarter out, then I will return with a frame pack to pack the rest out.

And be extra careful when you are out there on your own.

When I was younger I hunted solo most of the time. I had a camper for base camp and hunt until dark and then back to camper. It was area I knew well, Marshall Pass.
