Pat lives in the mountains of North Carolina and the hurricane went through there. Haven't seen him post since the storm hit. Anyone know if he is doing ok? I don't have his cell #.

Roy, living in the mountains there is a good chance he doesn't have power. We live in the mountains and when we lose power to a big storm it can be days before it is restored.

We are back!!!  Just got our home phone and internet back up today after 1 month without. Were out of power for 16 days but that was mostly an inconvenience. We are in the head waters of the French Broad River. The water comes up fast here but goes down fast too. Unfortunately it all went toward Asheville a other communities down river. This was the worse weather related  disaster in NC history, far surpassing the great flood of 1916.

Thanks, Jack.
Roy, we are doing fine but thanks for the offer. We saw the storm coming and prepared for it. We have kerosene lamps, cook on a gas(propane) stove and can get water from the creek on our property for bathing and flushing. Our neighbors got power a week before we did so we could get drinking water, cloths washing and hot showers from them.  Once the culverts on our driveway get fixed in the next few days and I get a load of gravel on my driveway we will be back to normal. We have 5 households to share the expense and maybe some FEMA money.
Growing up in Savannah and living in Coastal SC we have been through hurricanes before so we came to the mountains in 1990 with that knowledge.
We get quite a few storms here anyway. Many hurricanes that hit the panhandle of FLA come up towards us here in the
Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Nice to be prepared... Glad things worked out.

The last big wind storm we had here we lost our power for 12 days. I saw it coming and rented a generator just in case. Didn't need it for lights or heat. We have a wood stove and plenty of oil lamps.... But....We lost some huge trees and one fell on our wood shed. Surprisingly enough our insurance company covered all the damage and even paid for the generator rental. That one surprised me.... But we had a full chest freezer that needed power or we would have lost all our meat for the year.

I was hoping that generator would have run the well pump, but it wouldn't do it. unfortunately its 300' deep and has a 3hp motor.   but i had filled 10 - 5 gallon containers the day before the storm hit. so it wasn't too bad.

Glad ya came through it ok .... That was a nasty storm.    Kirk

We had pretty nice weather after the storm with clear skies, cool temps and not a drop of rain for a month. I'm sure that helps with the early recovery in the bad areas. The 2 days before the storm we had 6" of rain then 18" during the storm then nothing for a month.
We finally got 3/4" of light rain over the last 2 days here so most of that sunk in. With most of the leaves down now dry weather can be a fire hazard so this little bit of rain helps.
