2016 deer
« on: September 27, 2016, 02:14:00 PM »
I've been too busy and haven't been out yet.  I will get out this week or weekend.  I need to get things in order as I will be hunting Ripley on Oct 5 and 6. Plenty of water down by Mankato right now.  Has anyone else been out in the woods yet?

I'd like to get out soon but there has been quite a bit of family stuff going on, and it would sure be nice for some of the skeeters to die off!

Haven't been out yet either. Heck, haven't even bought my license yet-maybe today, just in case a chance to go comes up! Good luck to every one!

I only saw two deer at Ripley.  The numbers are way down.  On the first day the 40 gun hunters shot one doe, and the 60 bow hunters shot one doe.
And I won a brand new Mathews bow.  oh what shall I do with it.  I kind of want to target shoot with it a little bit.

Too bad about the low deer numbers, do you think it is wolves?

I'd sell the bow and use the money towards a Holm-made!

Was out the first weekend in Oct.   7 or 8 does and young and a lone fort horn buck, nothing close though,  will be out again this coming weekend...

I'm seeing some but haven't been out as much as I usually am.  I passed on two yearling bucks and a doe the first week or so on the season.  I won't pass up anything any more as the season progresses.  Hoping to get a couple this weekend in Wisconsin.  Take care,  Chad

I've been out three times in ten days but haven't seen any yet. But they are in the area and moving. My nephew shot one out of one of my stands last night.

Jacob got a small doe Saturday in Wisconsin.  10 yards he shot it with his 33@23" recurve.  Shot it through the liver.  We left it for 4 hours and it rained pretty steady.  Had trouble finding it because it ran away 120 yards, stopped and came back to with in 60 yards of the stand before dying.  It went where I wouldn't have expected it to.  Lucky to find it.  Prayers didn't hurt either          Chad

Shoot a mature doe a few weeks ago with an osage selfbow on public.  I was in a quick made ground blind, tucked into some brush, with a couple shooting lanes cut out.  She was about 15 yards away.

She was with the only group of deer I've even seen hunting this year.

The deer numbers coming into the taxidermy shop are really low this year.

I got a nice doe in Wisconsin  on December 27th.   A nice way to finish the season.  I passed up another doe and seven point the same evening as I heard my dad shoot (he was hunting the late doe rifle season)  and I didn't want to take care of more then 2 deer.
