Heading north, to God's Country this friday and next friday

Howdy fellow Cheeseheads.  One FIB, headed your way this Friday.  Hunting NE of Stevens Point on Friday Saturday & Sunday, then on to Ladysmith area on Monday and Tuesday, then back home in time for work tuesday night.  The following Friday, headed back up to Door County for 4 days.  It is always good to come "home"...even for just a few days.  
How is everyone's hunting going so far this fall?  Any buck activity to speak of?  Lots of does and fawns around?  I am SOooooo glad there isn't a T-Zone "hunt" going on like there has been in the past when I've come up...

The hunting's been exceptionally slow in my area, Merrill - Rhinelander. Coupled with the DNR having us over harvest to prevent CWD we have lots of bears that really put a big hurt on the fawn crop. Local archery shop runs a big buck contest every year that you have to pre-register for. He had 150 archers register for the contest, as of Friday he had two bucks enterd. One was a spiker and the other was a five pointer. That should tell you how bad the hunting is up here, mostly because there are very few deer. Those that are here have been baited into nocturnal movement.

Seems like it is picking up a bit in south and central parts where I hunt.  The smaller bucks are wandering around searching.  By this coming weekend things should be going great.  Have a great trip Kevin!

Thanks for the info, guys.  The main reason I come north is to hunt with friends...if we make meat, it's just a bonus.  I know what you mean about the baiters, Dale.  Last year when I was up hunting with George Sr. one could hear ATVs at all hours of the day.  I've heard of creamed corn, field corn, seed corn, sweet corn, even Indian corn.  What the heck is DEER corn?  I bet if you had a cornfield to hunt they wouldn't even come in unless you piled it up for them, of course only in 2 gallon piles, yeah, right...!

Joe, we watched a big 10 pointer chasing a doe all around at work last week one night.  Course that was at 3 in the morning.  I did pass up a 1 1/2 year old 8 pointer friday that was chasing a doe.  He really should stop teasing me like that, don't know how much I can take before the cedar starts flying, if you know what I mean!

Kevin, What the hell is a corn field? I thought corn came in fifty pound bags! And, are you trying to infer that they don't make corn at grocery stores, sports shops, and gas stations. Now you tell me it can be found in fields. What's this world coming to?
Am going out in the morning with the rattle horns to see if I can shake up a little action. Actually I've noticed a marked improvement in the doe activity in the last few days, the bucks shouldn't be far behind.

Good luck in the morning.  I haven't seen a deer my last two sits but saw plenty last weekend.  Should have shot another one I guess, but still plenty of time.
