The build up
« on: December 10, 2018, 07:04:30 PM »
Testing this forum out. Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been shooting my bow almost daily in anticipation. This is has been my only hunting opportunity the last 3 years due to land access issues and very young children. I look forward to this about as much as Christmas.

I'm with you Jacob, I look forward to this hunt every year. Love the swamp, love the food, love the camaraderie. Occasionally we even see hogs and deer - so there's a bonus!

Will be my first and very much looking forward to it gentlemen! With just a little over a month out, guess I better start gathering gear or at least start making a gear list.

I look forward to it as well!  FWIW, I WILL be investing more time deer hunting this year!  My plan is deer in am, hog hunt/scout mid day, and deer hunt the evening on most days.  It is going to be a blast!

Louisiana's rut is something that keeps EVERYONE guessing.

It's typically around thanksgiving, but i believe it's still going on now, so who knows?

Chumster, I am not sure but I am going to try to get up there as early that week as I can. Hopefully by the 16th. Will know when it gets closer.

Thanks Todd,

I can head down most any day but didn't want to get too anxious and be early.
Looking forward to it!

I took off work the Thursday and Friday. Depending on family obligations I’ll be there either very late Wednesday (like 11pm-midnight) or more likely very early Thursday morning around sunrise.

Hope all had a Merry Christmas!

Okay, is anyone gathering up their gear, making lists, thinking about it or do you stay packed and ready?

I have a tubby in the man cave getting filled, a list being made and can't wait! I have the arrow case full, broadheads (stingers) ready, license purchased and GPS coordinates entered into the truck.

What say you??

Tonight I will start refletching arrows. Then the week before I pack so that I have a better idea of the weather and what clothes I need. Sharpen broadheads a day or 2 before. Cook the weekend before and freeze it. Etc,etc...

I hear you,

Will be checking the weather over the next couple of weeks just because. Finally found a big enough piece of meat to smoke for our pulled pork meal.

There has been the slightest change, If possible, I would like people to try to get there Thursday at the earliest.  The camp we will primarily be using is my father in laws and I will  be there Thursday even after work and take Friday off.  But worst case scenario, I’ll be there Thursday around 5.  It would be best if I was there to hook everything up with the camp situation.

There is a good chance my father I. Law will be there Thursday and then it’ll all be fine.  Just giving y’all. Heads up.

It’s going to be a blast fellas, I hope y’all are ready!

Thursday is no problem for me. When do you plan on ending this hunt?

That works fine for me. Is it ok if I get there early Thursday AM and park at the camp? Maybe drop a few things on the porch?

Definitely! You can do whatever is most convenient.  It would just be best if we got there on Thursday so no one stays the night without me being there.

I will be coming home at the latest Monday.  But am free to whatever everyone else wants.

Glad I looked at this, I was planning to head down the 16th, but I can use that day to bake the brownies & pack. I'll just try to head down early the 17th.

I'm going down tomorrow to check the area out.  The river is currently pretty high.  Which, imo, is a good thing!  But in the past it has caused made us have to branch out a good bit!

I am excited fellas!
