My Big Island Hunt 2013
« on: November 12, 2013, 12:57:00 PM »

I hunted two days on the big island of Hawaii, Tuesday, November 5th and Wednesday, November 6th. I started each morning at the Ka’Ohe GMA at 5:30 am.

Each day, I ended up at mile marker 45 (Saddle Rd) where I had spotted goats from the highway. Many failed stalks; however, I never got discouraged – I was having too much fun! By noon, on day two, I had run out of water and was exhausted. I decided to head back to the car and call it a day. I was satisfied and grateful for the privilege of the chase. Then, I got lucky.

Bloody arrow; complete pass through!

View from arrow. I came to full draw from behind the rock in the distance. I’m 6’ 2”, 230 lbs; the rock was 6 feet tall and kept me well hidden.

30 yard recovery. These are wild Hawaiian goats, no farm animals here. Their senses are keen and very alert, much like our Whitetail deer.

Horne’s Traditionalist longbow, 68”, 55# @ 31”, 550 grain carbon arrow, Zwickey 2-blace broadhead.

Entrance wound from inside chest cavity.

Exit wound.

To tracker12 - I have an airline carry, hard case designed for fishing poles; it's called the Bazooka Pro by Flambeau.

Thanks Shan, good to hear from you. Chasing turkeys in Santa Ynez, no luck yet - just blisters! I'm still open for Vandenberg. Cody got hired by North County Fire Dept (Oceanside/Encinitas).
