Halloween morning doe
« on: November 03, 2015, 08:31:00 PM »
I decided to head up to one of my favorite places on earth Saturday morning. After a mile plus of some steep terrain I was set up at 6:45. Sunrise on top of the mountain is always special.

All was quiet till 8:00 when three does and a fawn came in, followed by a six point that came in hard grunting. He ran off with one of the does. As the others milled around one doe gave me a twelve yard shot. Bird in hand.
She was hit hard and took off down the hill. I followed her to a nearly vertical drop off where she went over the ledge. I couldn't see her so I decided to climb down for a look. I lost my courage and hiked to the base and doubled back to look.

This is the ledge she plunged from. I found her about 30' from the base.

I am very thankful to have her, and my loyal hunting friend to get her out.

Wow Glen, perhaps she was depressed when she jumped? lol.  My guess is she wasn't thinking clearly after getting struck by the arrow or she was dead on her feet and momentum sent her over.

I always enjoy pictures from your mountain Perch, Looks to be a great spot.
Relax,
