The next 2 nights and days were filled with talking about the world and its inhabitants, mostly our families and animals. Good stuff!

During that time which was admittedly a casual hunt due to the warm weather, heavy foliage and too good of company by the fire I probably still hunted 7 miles  and sat for 8 hours total. Not another deer seen aside from the near camp. I did bump a good sized critter near a pond that wasn't in a hurry to get away but I never got a look at it to see what it was although I tried. Even the grouse wouldn't cooperate, although their numbers appear good. We had bear all over our ridge as evidenced by their cherry filled scat but I guess they evaded us as well.

As is always the case when hunting with Ron and Cuz, just being there is the prize. It came to an end too soon and we were on our way back to "reality" before long. Soon after leaving the gate to the Moose Riner Plains the deer started to appear. Ray and I saw somewhere in the area of 20 deer and a flock of 23 turkey. Wherever there were apple trees, there were critters. Good to see so many animals survived last winter although there weren't any fawns sighted.

The Blood Moon guided us home to end a memorable weekend which will a treasured memory for the rest of my life. I can't wait for next year.   :campfire:

The skies and color that blessed us through the time spent in the mountains.

     The Moose River.

The "Throne Of Beasts". This was found in the gamiest piece of Adirondacks Ive ever seen. Tough to access but full of deer and bear sign. Ill be back here.

On top of these ridges are where the critters like to travel. Most have old game trails across them.

Hard to walk away from a place like this. Kinda makes you think that places like this are a part of us all and that many of societys problems would go away if we could all get back here from time to time.

Venison ribs over a camp fire, it doesn't get better for me.

And when the ribs are done its roast and dogs. Nothing but the good stuff. I hope Ron got some pics of the apple pir The Queen sent with me. Also had some of moms own Puerto Rican rice and peas or as they are known "Arroz Con Gandules." We ate well to say the least.

Some old friends, some new friends.

Cuz with his 1st flint and steel fire. Not bad for a Bronx feller.

The beginning of the Blood Moon. Not a very artistic photo but as with everything, its best experienced in real life.

I finally loaded some pics.  The week-end was all that Izzy said it was.  I stayed one more night, it was the first time I stayed alone up in the mountains and it was pretty cool.  Got to watch that moon and the eclipse.  Here is Izzy's awesome tent. Better than any old hotel room, I think

The food was fantastic!  Nothing like cooking with cast iron.

Well, nothing like it other than cooking on an open fire.  The venison ribs were tremendous!

We didn't just eat, though.  Plenty of stumps were taken over the week-end.
