Northern Zone Early Bear Season
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:00:00 PM »
In the interest of getting my moneys worth out of my tent I think I might be going to Moose River Plains for opening weekend. To be honest, I would rather not kill another bear but Ill be up there camping, stumping, scouting and fishing if all goes as planned.

If amy of you all are up that way stop by the wall tent for a pop and a burger.

    Anyone one else going?

Have fun Buddy!  I can't get off work until early deer or I'd run up there.

I'll be hunting in 5H, Izzy. I was finally able to make it up to my little shack last week, and found a spot where what appears to be one bear, has been feeding in some beeches. There are a lot of nuts, so hopefully it will still be using them. I'm hoping to get back up there sometime next week to do some more scouting, and come up with a back up plan.

I like the meat, and It's been a while since I've killed one, so that's my goal, but just getting out with the bow and enjoying the woods during an open season, is a little slice of heaven in itself.   :bigsmyl:

Good luck Izzy, and have fun.

Bob

Looking like it's off the table for me. Too many hunts not enough time. Will be there for the deer opener.

"Too many hunts not enough time."  I guess that's better than too much time and not enough hunts LOL!  You planning on being in the plains for the Sept 27 deer opener?  I have that week-end off and Monday (the 28th) off, too.

I'm shootin' for Saturday morning.  We'll have to figure out where we're setting up camp.  I never made it up there this summer - trying to fix some damage on the house.  It'd be nice to set up where we camped last year.

If you guys go across the Dam near the sign in point and follow the road around to the barricade, It was nice walking with several bear and deer trails crossing.  I didn't notice any beech trees but i only walked about a mile.  There had not been any foot or bicycle traffic back there as far as I could tell recently and its a nice walk.

My Uncle Fred(RIP) used to Bear hunt back there yearly and did fairly well.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
