Moving to upstate NY
« on: May 04, 2015, 05:45:00 PM »
Hi guys

So I've been living in California for the past 10 years or so and have been heavily into the traditional archery scene. Work has me moving soon and I want to make sure that I get my archery fix out there or else I'll go crazy. I was hoping you guys could help point me in the direction of any ranges and shoots in the upstate New York area. I have family down in New Jersey too so I'm not opposed to traveling.

Thanks in advance and happy shooting

Welcome to NY and to TradGang.  There are quite a few trad archers here.  Where in upstate NY are you relocating to?  Upstate is a pretty big area.  There is a nice 3d trad rendezvous down in Oxford, NY in August.

Thanks ronp. I'm glad to finally be a member. I've been reading posts here for years but never got around to making an account.

I'm going to be moving up to Cape Vincent. It's a small place not too far from Watertown. My family has a fairly nice chunk of land up there so I'll be stumping around mainly but I like to get around to the 3D shoots. Oxford looks to be a good one.

Welcome to NY.

I am unfamiliar with anyone in that neck of the woods but an hour south near Syracuse, you will meet a lot more folks.
Relax,

Cape Vincent is nice.  It is up in the Thousand Island region, where Lake Ontario empties into the St. Lawrence River.  I'm not sure of any trad 3d shoots up that way.  Plenty of stumping opportunities, though.  Lots of state land up our way.

I was just poking around and found this your post.  I am in Malone we have an active group of trad shooters in Norfolk also the gang in Tupper Lake is great.  Both groups put on trad only shoots in the summer and one of the best 3d shoots I have been to is the Mt. Challenge in Tupper Lake each year.  If you are looking for shooters closer Herb Moore has a shop in Russell (he is a wheel shooter but a great guy) that may be able to put you in touch with some shooters in your area.
I hope this info is helpful.
