I'm still tentative and probably will be for a couple more weeks.  Sorry I can't give a better answer right now.

Bad news for me guys...well, actually its good news in a way.
I got drawn for the first week of the sika bowhunt at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge...therefore, I will have to leave early Saturday morning to head out to the eastern shore...
Couple of things:

I'll ask Mark Stella to sort of takeover the planning (he's done most of it anyway).

Also, since I'll be heading to the Eastern Shore from there I won't be bringing my popup.  If someone has extra space in their tent or camper for Thur and Fri night, let me know.

Ken-

Looks like canopyboy is going to bail, and little ben is still on the fence.  I they are not showing, I may have room in my tent (once it arrives from Montana Canvas!).  We will know for sure within  few weeks, I expect.

What a blast this past weekend.  I took my 16 foot cataraft down to WV and floated the New River Gorge, yehaw!!  Too much rain to float the Gauley River.  Saw a few nice deer.  The leaves are just starting to turn up in the mountains!

Sounds like fun Machias.
I met a new Tradganger named Jim Farley from Logan County WV today at TJK68's farm. Fine fellow. I told him about our planned hunt and he seemed very interested.
Jump on in Jim and let us know if your coming. It's going to be a great trip. Bring that new bow.
Ken, I may have an extra tent if you snor loud and get kicked out of the other. Let me know and I will bring it.

Mark,
Thanks!  I've got one I can bring if I need to.

Unsure about my Chincoteague trip with the shutdown, so may or may not be leaving Saturday morning.

Looking forward to it!

Going to bring the topic back up to the top on Powwow.

Let's try to keep it up there until the hunt.

cool.  Sorry if the shutdown crushes the sika hunt.

I'm trying to deal with a mismatch between the stove jack on my new tent, and the pipe on the stove.  Worst case, I can bring my "Little Buddy" heater.

Gettin' pumped for the getaway.....    :campfire:

ronp had a good point over on the powwow section.

Anyone know if the campground will be open if the fools in Washington don't rectify their shutdown?

The White Rocks Campground is currently closed due to the gov. shutdown.  I saw it included in a list published in the Roanoke Times.  Basically, any location with facilities to maintain or a garbage can to empty requires employees and has been closed.  USFS lands are open to access but campgrounds and day use areas are closed until our elected representatives quit throwing tantrums.

I do not think there has been any ban on primitive camping following the USFS rules for camping on the Forest but that means no facilities, no picnic tables and no fire rings.

I hope things come around soon for your hunt and for many other reasons.  Good luck guys and have a great hunt!

Guess I need to get familiar with what constitutes primitive camping, because I will be there whether I am on paid Leave or Furlough.

Doug,
If the campground isn't open, then we'll have to camp in an area where there is no water/electric service and no restrooms.
