Were I hunt in VA past 20 something years I camp primitive and I like it that way but how will the guys all be camping in the same area? We camp at the end of a road that does not have a lot of room. If there is to be a hunt were you all stay in the same area how will that happen? I am considering this hunt but how is it going to be done I would like some more info please.     Widow

I have done some primitive camping in the Zepp, VA area in the GW Nat'l Forest.  Primitive is fine with me.

widow sax...not sure how we will coordinate where to meet/camp, but I am hoping one of our guys who has done a little advance scouting can provide info on an acceptable rally point.
(of course, I also hope the gov't silliness ends and we can go with original plan).

I won't get there until relatively late Thursday.  If someone could send me a text or give me a call and let me know where camp ends up being I would appreciate it.
If any of you guys can do this, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my number.
Thanks

Ken...and other potential attendees at this event...My cell phone number is 703-994-84 five five.

I was going to PM it, but what the hell....

Anyhow, I am off all next week, but still deciding when to head out.  Probably Wednesday at the latest, but possibly sooner.

I will search for a suitable spot when I get there, unless anyone else who has been there can recommend a decent alternate.

Thanks!

Doug

OK....It's official.  I am now off until 21 October.  I could get down to the area of our hunt as early as Monday afternoon, but I would hate to set up in a random area of the NF, just to have to break camp and move to the White Rocks Recreation Area a day or two later if the gov't shutdown ends before Thursday.

Looking for recommendations....

Fellows, sorry I have been MIA.
Been real busy at work.  I may not be able to make it.
Ken has the details why. Just emailed him.
Snake. If you could make a cardboard sign that simply has TG on it as a marker. I may can make it down on Friday. All others can look for the marker also.
Duty calls fellows.

Understood.  So, now the "official" roll call for this event is down to three shooters?  hmmmm.

There is GWNF about 2 hours from my house, which is a lot closer that 5 hours from my house.

I'm not bailing just yet, but between the gov't shutdown closing the campground, the minimal attendance, and the crappy weather here in Northern VA for the last couple of days, my enthusiasm is not what it once was.

I'll make a decision tomorrow or Monday at the latest.  Not trying to be wishy-washy....just trying to be realistic.

Just talked with Kingsnake....and haven't heard back from Machias.

Guys, with so many that have had to cancel, we feel it is best to write this one off.

Hopefully we can make it work next year.  Thanks to all those who gave their input and helped so much with the planning.

Hope everyone keeps in touch and has a great season.

Sorry, gang.  I'm a little upset about this one.  I was really looking forward to the adventure.

I am going to try to set up in the GWNF near Zepp, VA and cut out about three additional hours of driving each way.  If you get the urge to drive North, feel free to stop by!  It should be ok during bow season, but the "Orange Army" owns it during gun season....I won't even hunt there during gun season.

Next time....

No problem gents.  Sorry I did not respond right away.  I did a 5 hour trip to Fayetteville, WV and rafted the Lower Gauley river this weekend.  Nearly met my maker on Sat, but I'll save that one for the campfire.   :)   I have a 21 day bowhunting trip to Missouri coming up on the 1st of Nov so it's all good here.  Looking forward to meeting and sharing a campfire somewhere down the road with you fellas.

Machias--I see you're in Stafford.  Not too far from me in Alexandria.  If you think you can make a day to two out in the GW near Zepp, please give me a shout.  I plan on getting there a little after noon tomorrow and staying until Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, depending on the weather over the weekend.

Thanks for joining me, Machias!  I enjoyed the company!  Sorry there wasn't more game.  After four days of hard hunting in the GWNF, I packed it in a day early myself.  Maybe next time....

I could be out in my stand after one of these local suburban deer, but I feel a little fried.
