Hurricane Irene
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:44:00 PM »
At the house, all the preps that can be done are complete.  So now I'm thinking how this storm may change the lay of the land, and deer pathes in my hunting areas.  Down trees, shaking of the acorns off the trees, ectetera.  Oh well, such is life.  LOL

Good luck Dave, the news this morning said it looks like its moving east. I hope we get some rain from it but the weather man doesn't seem to think we will. It sure is dry here.

All is well (for now).  Tomorrow?  Well, that may be a different subject.

But, in the meantime, this lil guy was taking a nap under the Leland’s (about 20 yards away from the back porch).

I can only assume (like all of the hummingbirds) that all of the critters know "something" is coming and they are feeding heavily.

Well, all is well at my location.  Others, well... they were not so lucky.  A friend of mine (who lives in King & Queen County) had a huge Oak tree land on his barn (see below photos); however, nothing hit house.  Both he and his wife are fine (thank you LORD!).

(The bottom photos shows SilverWolf / Jennifer ... just so you can see visualize the size of this old Oak tree.

This is a photo of my back yard on Saturday (at about 4 p.m.).  The height of H-Irene was going to hit at approx. 7 p.m. in the evening.

From the back porch to the woodline, it's 103 yards.

Glad all is well with you after the storm Dave. That looks like a huge tree that fell. When I see a big tree like that down, it always makes me think of everything it has live through in it's many years up to the storm or whatever made it fall.

The small storm that hit on Thursday did more damage in my area than the quake & Irene put together.

I'm thankful that there isn't but so many lives lost due to these storms.

Thursday's storm dropped enough small limbs to show that some of the white oaks in my area do have a few acorns.  I thought the whites were completely devoid of acorns this year, but was pleasantly surprised.

Only about a month to go!!!

Dominion guy pulled in the driveway about 4:30; said he didn't know we were back here (Val had been calling all week).  Had the trucks working on the down line within the hour; it was down back in the woods off our property.  Sparked up about 6:30....good to go.  Yeah, the generator was sweet, but blew through a bunch of propane.  Still, way better than not having one,I reckon.
