Is anybody hunting WMA's in SE virginia?
« on: November 25, 2009, 06:09:00 AM »
I've been pretty quite on the forum and the hunting scene for the last couple of years.  Was wandering if anyone's done any hunting at Ragged Island, Chicahominy, and the GATR tract of Mockhorn Island.  I'm primarily interested in the GATR tract as that's the closest to me and if it's even remotely similar in deer population as the other parts of the Eastern Shore then I'll be a happy man.

Me and my dad do pretty much all of our hunting on raggid island, chicahominy, and cavalier (after it opens to the public). ive killed and missed a couple deer on raggid island and missed a few (including a big buck) on chicahominy.

Cavalier...really?  I thought it was only open to quota hunts.  Learn something new everyday I guess.  Where do you hunt at Ragged?  I've been back there a couple times on the east side of 17 and didn't see much for sign...didn't go in terribly deep though.

Good to hear from you too Tom.  See you at the squirrel hunt if there is one...matter of fact, I'm gonna start a thread right now.

we canoe WAYYYY back there. that first island is useless unless you like watchin people. and as for cavalier after december 2 you can hunt it all you want but right now its closed after a certain point because the noreaster opened a sink hole. you have to check the online regulations before you hunt it thoug because news on the sinkhole is always changing.
