Robert, it is my understanding that fox is open on private land with the land owners permission. Firearms season for fox opens Nov 1.

I have had a couple people question whether it was legal or not to shoot the fox now. I called the VDGIF office and got the answer (the same as I understood before).

There is no closed season for foxes in Va (other than no Sunday hunting), as long as you are hunting on your own property or private property and you have permission from the landowner to kill a fox.

Hope this clears up a little muddy water.

I searched all through the game regs last night and they make no mention of this. Shame on them!

That's good to know AS as I see them lots where I hunt and could never get a good understanding of it for bow hunters. That's a nicely placed shoot by the way on that fur bearer!

Tastes almost the same as grey fox, Dave!!  :bigsmyl:

Work it up in a good stew and you can't tell the difference.

I have a nice red fox pelt from last fall but it was fresh road kill rather then my hunting skills. To nice to just let it rot on the side of the road.

Chad, you can either send the photos to me for posting, or just give me a call tomorrow.

David

P.S. Vic?  5 yards?  Ouch!    Saying that, a few years ago I missed a large buck at 7 yards.  Heck, in my mind, I can still see my arrow going right over his back.  Ughhhhhhh!!!!!

It has been awfully slow around here, I've been 7 times and seen 3 deer. Did finally get a doe monday at 12 noon. We have no acorns up on the mountain this year. The deer dont seem to be moving much, plus the full moon the first week didn't help. Congrats Allen on 2 good shots.

Patrick, if I hadn't already had one in the freezer I would have definately let an arrow fly. It was getting pretty late in the evening, and I had to work all the next day....so I opted to pass.

I have passed on lots of small bucks in the past, but this is a first on a big mature doe for me. I guess as we age, our priorities DO change!
