Doin' the Twist!
« on: December 31, 2006, 12:23:00 AM »
Hey guys, I know most of you maybe build your own strings, and I have too for about ten years. But I missed my length a lot of times, and always wondered: Am I doing this right?
I was taught by Gary Holmes, who once built bows for Ron LaClair, but he only showed me once! LOL!
And his method didn't use a stringboard or nothing, he just grabbed a bunch of strands and started twisting. I tried using a tape rule, to measure with but that really never cut it. I always wondered how to use a stringboard.
Yesterday I recieved a copy of: Doin' the Twist, by Joe Stark and Chad Weaver. It is a great DVD, and I learned more watching that video than all the articles I've read on string building.
It shows two people with two different methods for laying out the strings, with the same end: a nice flemish string! And it's never boring, and has great music.
I recommend this video to anyone wanting to learn to build strings!
