3 rivers
« on: December 01, 2006, 07:38:00 PM »
This isn't a review of a product, but a company.  I placed an order from "3 Rivers" recently online.  I ordered some arrows, cut to length and inserts installed, and a few other little things.  I ordered it with the 1 day shipping.  Keep in mind, at this time I had been waiting on another product from a company I wont name (BPS)  That I had also ordered 1 day shipping on. (It was already 3 days overdue at this point)     I placed the order to 3 rivers late wed. night knowing that it wouldnt ship out till the next day and hopefully arrive friday.
Well, I got a call thursday from a very nice man at 3 rivers saying something like this  "We are very sorry that we missed your order yesterday and we will definetly ship it out today"  I told him that I figured it would go out today since the order was placed after business hours.  Anyway, to make a long story short, thier computer said I made the order at 8:30AM and really it was 8:30PM so they thought they had missed the order and were a day behind when really they were right on time.  I just thought it was awesome how they actaully called me to let me know what was going on.  When I got home toady, i was happy to see my box waiting at the door.  Great service!!  oh yeah, they also knocked off the shipping charges because they thought they messed up.     :banghead:

Thumbs up for 3Rivers from me as well. Picked up a parcel from the customs a couple of days ago.
It took them just a week to get my stuff to me. From the time I placed the order to the time I got a notice in the mailbox that the goods have arrived. And bear in mind that I'm located in Northern Europe!

They also answer questions by email within the next 24 hours, and usually a lot faster.

A great company.

Great people and service.  My biggest complaint about  them is that I want to place orders there every month! (well and I also want to place orders at KustomKing monthly as well)

It's great to have such good resources in what is probably a pretty small niche market.

The last and final order I placed with 3rivers was for a dozen axis shafts with no nocks or inserts installed and 2 dozen field points. When I got the order the field points were loose in the box and had chipped up the shafts and the nocks were installed and there were saw marks on 2 shafts. When I checked there return policy I found that I would have to pay the shipping even though it was their screw up! I don't have time to deal with their incompetence.

Below is my recent email to 3 Rivers.  I was not fortunate enough to experience the great customer service and quality products that others appear to have had.  Let's see if I get slammed here like I have at *********** for bringing to light my experience with 3 Rivers.

Dear XXXX:

I placed my first order with 3 Rivers prior to Christmas. It was for a child's longbow, quiver, arrows, arm guard and glove. The order was sent to my daughters in TN for my grandson, Tanner. For now, I live in S. California and traveled to TN for Christmas. Christmas Eve, the boxes from 3 Rivers were unpacked to be placed below the tree for my little archer buddy.

I was very disappointed to discover that the bow sent to me was a 20# LH bow and not the 15# bow that I had ordered. Additionally, the quality of the bow left a lot to be desired. I would go as far as to say that the finish is non-existent and it had numerous dings the size of a dime, looked like dings from a bolt head, around the riser. Very poor looking bow!

XXXX, I had thought long and hard about where to order a longbow for a little guy and had even considered ordering it special order from a guy who sells on eBay and posts on *********** frequently, but opted for 3 Rivers given your reputation and size and wanting to make sure it got there before Christmas. I am going to order a bow for Tanner from this gentleman. I believe the quality will far exceed what I received from 3 Rivers.

When I contacted 3 Rivers after Christmas to discuss the mistake the first gentlemen I spoke to could not even find my order, though I was looking at it on the internet. I called back and spoke to a young lady who was very nice and without any explanation asked me to hold and transferred me to your Controller, xxxxxxx. xxxxxx was very punctual and polite and explained to me that you no longer carried that bow so you could not replace it. Frankly given the poor quality I can see why. She gave me the choice of returning the bow or taking a $ 20.00 credit on my credit card.

xxxx, I have been thinking about this off and on for the past few weeks and have posted a copy of this email on ***********. As far as the options that I was given, return the bow and disappoint my grandson by taking his bow away, even though he will have to grow into 20 #'s, by sending the bow back and not having anything to replace it with quickly or taking the $ 20.00. That is not even taking into consideration that the boxes had already been collapsed and shipping the thing back would have cost another $ 20.00 not to mention the inconvenience to my daughter and son-in-law. I hope you can appreciate that I took the $ 20.00 in order to have the least impact on my grandson. I will get him another bow. One of better quality and certainly a better fit.

xxxxxx was very nice and frankly said that everyone makes mistakes and that 3 Rivers had made a mistake. I appreciate her candor and dealing with a few thousand internet merchants with their merchant services accounts I get to see all kinds of mistakes. So, that I can appreciate, but I also believe that your shipping department grabbed what was left and shipped anyway without any consideration of the order or the quality of the bow.

What prompted this email was receiving your "Winter Sale" email below. The jury is still out as to whether I will ever place another order with 3 Rivers. If I do, it will not be for a bow or any arrows or anything that 3 Rivers could impact by a failure to exercise any semblance of quality control either in receiving or shipping.

xxxx, 3 Rivers has a wonderful website and an excellent inventory of Traditional Archery equipment. Additionally, 3 Rivers is a sponsor of Bowsite.com and I am sure many other worthy archery organizations as well as priding itself on being a "family business" that has grown. So, please do not think that I believe or feel that all is bad at 3 Rivers. Though Christmas time is a busy time for all retailers, based on my experience it would not hurt your organization to examine your policies and procedures for inspecting and shipping your orders and being better prepared for the Christmas rush. I might have been far less disappointed had I received an email and/or phone call to let me know that you did not have the bow I ordered, which would have given me some time and alternatives. The choices left after the fact were less than satisfactory and that has certainly impacted my desire to be a repeat customer. I have had better luck on eBay.

For all of you ardent supporters of 3 Rivers Archery I would like to tell you that they have more than exhibited their commitment to quality by the manner in which Todd of 3 Rivers responded to my email and post. I would additionally say that they exhibited a rare and valuable character trait of being able to address the issue head on in a professional and positive manner. We should all be more like that!

Publicly, I would like to thank Todd and through the exchange in the previous thread say that maybe we all learned a few things. I know I did.

This morning I had the benefit to exchange a number of emails with Todd from 3 Rivers Archery. It was a very positive and productive exchange. Please see a portion of my email and then Todd's response.

Again, publicly, I want to thank Todd for his efforts on behalf of Three Rivers Archery and for taking his valuable time and understanding my intentions and desires! I believe that this ended up being a Win - Win.

My email:

I again would like to state, as I did on the ***********, that everyone that I spoke to within your organization was polite and professional. Taking into consideration my emotions attached to something for my grandson, I would have only been mildly irritated if it had been an order for myself. After some reflection I believe that to be an honest assessment. 3 Rivers, obviously, has a very good reputation and some extremely loyal customers, as evidenced by the ***********. That is a good thing both for the trad archery consumer and 3 Rivers. You know Todd, I spent almost twenty years in distribution in the aviation industry. Living in Hong Kong, Dallas and numerous other locations with multiple warehouses around the world. Airlines tend to be very intolerant of errors as an aircraft sitting on the ground costs a tremendous amount in lost revenue. It still boils down to attention to detail in receiving materials, pulling orders and shipping. As any organization grows in sales volume and number of employee's the complexity of running a tight ship increases faster than anything else. In my opinion, it is a quantum leap from a small family owned and operated business to a major retailer / distributor with brick and mortar sales and internet sales. It is often difficult to impart and ingrain the commitment to quality in all facets of the business that contributed to the growth of the company in the first place.

Todd's Response:

Fred, You've nailed it though, each order and every person is important. I personally have trouble with anyone being unhappy with us. I'm frustrated that you experienced what you did.

I like 3 Rivers and their commitment to trad archery.  I try to buy what I can there.  Unfortunately their prices are 10-20% higher than I can buy most items elsewhere.  I don't do as much shopping there as I would like to just for that reason.

i have ordered from three rivers and it took almost two weeks for me to recieve my order which was all in stock. 9 buisness days i live a 3hour drive from there warehouse in indiana. i was not pleased with there attitued towards my package being late. There excuse was it can take 2-7 buisness days. but i could have driven there 50 times in the time i got my package. i ordered on a tuesday i didnt recieve it until the next friday. i like the people at three rivers because ive meet most of there staff while visiting there warehouse on a weekend when the warehouse was open. So from now on if i need anything from three rivers i will drive the 3 hours before i pickup the phone. Which leaves me buying more things localy and spending far more money but i know i wont have to wait.

celticknot,

My experiance with 3-Rivers is just the opposite,
My order usually arrives before the post office can update their tracking number. I ordered a few items om Monday of this week and it arrived on Wednesday with no express shipping. A few years ago I did order some arrows cut to length and it took four days(ordered on monday arrived on thurs)
The only beef I have ever had with them is their shipping costs but that is what they charge so I just wait till the order is worth the cost.

Just $.02
Chris

Catsdad,
i dont have a beef with 3 rivers i love most of there staff they were always nice to me when i was there. and theyll talk to you forever about hunting. i just wasnt satisfied with there shipping. they say they also use ups. but i shouldnt have to pay more money just for them to use ups specificly, when they already use it. so, i either go there and get it or i dont get it from there at all.

3Rivers makes every effort to ship orders the same day they are taken.  Many of you have experienced this.

*3Rivers’ staff has been known to pull overtime during the Christmas season to make sure our customers get their orders before Christmas.*

Our standard shipping sends packages either USPS or UPS, depending on the box's weight and distance it is being shipped.  To get UPS as an option UPS requires a street address (no PO Boxes).

I've had the same experience as Catsdad.  I usually get delivery before the post office updates any tracking number.  3R is amazing!  My last order arrived in two or three days, standard shipping.  A couple years ago, I placed an order late at night and decided to change it early the following morning.  I called (about 6 hours later) and was told that the order had already shipped.  It seems that they have people there all night waiting for me to place an order! So I did just a few minutes ago.  thanks - ronp

I placed my first order early yesterday and it was shipped the same day. Not only this but they answered all of my email questions, before I ordered, within a day or two.
Hats off to their employees.

My experience with 3 Rivers has been outstanding!!!!   I purchased 3 bows from them since November in 3 separate purchases and their assistance and speed in shipping is perfect!!!

Shawn Leins, 3 Rivers Archery product specialist, worked with me by phone and email to get the exact bow and accessories I wanted.  He was courteous, prompt and on the mark for everything.  I appreciated his help and would do business with 3 Rivers Archery anytime.
