New Ancient Spirits Sequoia
« on: June 02, 2006, 09:10:00 PM »
Just received my new Sequia and couldn't be happier. It's 58" 48# @ 27". When I ordered the bow I told Tracy that I really wasn't a speed freak but shooting lighter poundage I wanted the most performance I could get. He suggested actionboo cores with sasafrass veneeres. I told him I had never seen a bow that he had built that wasn't beautiful and to just build me a pretty bow. You would not believe what a beautiful bow he made for me. The sasafrass limbs are nock down beautiful. I would never have believed that sasafrass would be so good looking. They are almost translucent looking with beautiful figured grain and the colors are almost iridescent when the light hits them. The riser is Hondorus Rosewwod with sasafrass lines in it.

Then to top it all off it is quite a shooter. It pulls smooth and is very quiet.

I shot it through a chrono today and out of 18 shots I threw out the highest and the lowest and averaged 166 fps shooting Legacy 1916's with a 125gr point for a weight of 475 grains. And that is with my poor release.

Like I said I couldn't be happier. The guys at Ancient Spirits are two of the best people you could ever ask to deal with.

I had my friend Warden 415 to take some pictures for me and hopefully he will post them. I just hope they can do the bow justice. Thanks for reading. Brokenwing

Ok I know that's alot of pics but I didn't feel like sorting through them at midnight so I just posted all I took today. I have a sequoia on order due soon and I will post those pics once I get it. The one bowfishing pic is unrelated but I just thought it was a cool pic my son took of another buddy of mine while we were all bowfishing on Wednesday. warden415

I really eyeballed these (Ancient Spirit) bows at Baltimore (over and over) - what beauties. I almost felt guilty, as i was stopping there as often as i was at Bob Morrison's. Then we even let the young man sit in at our campfire. I tried, the last day, my darndest to get him to let me do him the huge favor of taking one home with me - to help him advertise, ya know?. Would you believe that for some strange reason, while he was all for it, he wanted money in the process. How Crass!!! Try to do a strugglin' artist a favor!     :D      "[dntthnk]"      ;)  . Such Beautemous work - as Bob M. said, "Well, he got good training." I gotta say it sure took good!

Great looking bow!! I will be at a Hog Roast today with the "Boys" from Ancient Spirits, I grew up hunting/fishing with JD and his familey. His dad Jim Emerson was my mentor and showed me the ropes in shooting and hunting with Trad bows. JD & Tracy are two great guys who live and breath bows and bow hunting. I will tell them of the kind words you have about their bows and them.

Good Luck with your new bow!      :campfire:    :archer:

Leroy, I live about 2.5 hours away from their shop and was able to visit them. While there I got to try about four of their grips and the one I have is a medium recurve which I like very well. My friend Warden 415 has a Sequoia on order and he really liked the Kadiak grip.

P.S. While we were there the Warden picked out the woods for his new bow. All I can say is hold on to your socks when he gets it and post pictures of it. Some of the most BEAUTIFUL wood I've ever seen. I'll wait and let him tell you all about it.  Thanks.  Brokenwing

Bucktracks, Watch out the next time you ask for pictures and the Warden is around. :>) Is that enough? I just wish you could see the bow in person it is a work of art.

Thanks Steve for posting the pictures for me. John

boy dont ohio have some great bowyers...i happen to live only 30 min. from ancient spirits...they are working very hard, attending so many shoots with their bows and at the shop...i own 2 of their bows now...the recurve one pc.kadiak and the longbow one pc. mountain ash...osage limbs,osage/curly maple risor...both at 50# and 60 "...they are matchin bows with matchin numbers...it was very close choice with the sassafrass i must admit when i chose my look...but looks are 2nd for me...performance is what i like, and to tell the truth i really need it...and i get it from these bows...of course the real test for me is durability and how long theyll last...hopefully a lifetime...like my bear bows and shakespeares i bought back in 1964-1970...to me thats a good product...
