Liberty longbow
« on: April 20, 2006, 12:11:00 AM »
Just recieved my first custom longbow, a Liberty Contender by Allan Boice.  Quiet, quick and beautiful.  Myrtle/yew 62", 55#.  Very impressed.  If you have a chance to shoot one,  do it, you wont be dissapointed.

Yup! Allen builds some very fine longbows. I shoot his English Hill style bow with cocobola riser and bamboo core. I also had a yew cored English I gave to my son. Anyone looking for a Hill style or a mild r/d  needs to give them a look.

i agree- i had 2 contenders a 62" and a 66"-
still have the 66" -57# @ 29"
very accurate and very quiet-
a very sweet shooter-
if i ever get in a shooting slump with any of my other bows i can count on the contender to hit where i look-
if your not living on the edge, your taking up too much room!!

Allen Boice's "Liberty Bows" are the only Longbow I have ever owned. I've known Allen for many years and wanted one of his beautiful bows for quite some time. About four years ago I purchased a 64" 47# @28" Contender from him. Now six bows later I have his new "Chief" 64" 58# @28". His bows shoot very smooth and are exceptionally quiet. His new "Chief" shoots so fast and flat it is amazing. My 12 year old boy shoots one of Allens 40# 62" "Contender". We just love his bows. He now has a great web-site. Check it out. I saw it listed in a previous post. Ray Hamilton, Gold Beach, Oregon

I would agree, Allen's Contender longbows has all the qualities you could ask for in a longbow, and they look good to.

the woods are yew and cocobola
62# @ 28"
Allen actually recommends more of a recurve hand placement on the bow....I have tried this and it does shoot very well...I cant do this grip with many longbows
I have shot this bow for 1 week...I am definitely excited for bow season!!!!
