Tuffhead Brass Field Points (300 grain)
« on: March 18, 2019, 09:46:03 PM »
I want to give Tuffhead (a sponsor) kudos for some very impressive Brass Field points.  In my tuning quest for a Dr. Ashby recommended 650 grain arrow for a 58" Robertson CoyWolf (49# @ 28”), I ordered a dozen of Tuffhead's 300 grain brass field points.

https://www.tuffhead.com/product-page/screw-in-brass-field-point

These Needle-Point field points are long, with a length of 1.77 inches plus the shank and threaded portion.  The boat-tail bullet shaped projectiles are .310” diameter at the base and measuring .369” diameter at the widest point.  For your engineering folks (i.e. me, but retired) the statistical data of the dozen samples are:

Average: 299.5 grains
High:   300.2 grains
Low:   299.0 grains
SD:      .434

The above weights are without the o-ring.  The o-ring adds another 0.3 grains.  An extreme spread of only 1.2 grains and a mean within a 0.5 grain of the 300 grain target weight is quite impressive.

Good Hunting,
Ross

Thanks Ross.
There is always variations in metals which cause weight differences. But that is darn good.

Not hunting related but I used these same points when I set the Oregon State longbow record in the NFAA indoor, the last year they recognized a longbow class.
