Indoor/Outdoor range near Lafayette?
« on: February 22, 2011, 02:17:00 PM »
Howdy neighbors!  I'm in Texas and may be heading to Lafayette for a few weeks sometime in March.  I was wondering if there are any indoor or outdoor ranges around the Lafayette area?  Thanks for any info.

I think the Four Seasons Archery range in Opelousas is the closest range around.

You're welcome Ed. The BSBA may also have an event going on while you're down here. Here's a link to their events:

I'll be in the New Orleans area from about the 9th to the 25th as well.  Looking forward to some warmer weather and shooting.  The Northewest (north of Seattle) just got dumped on today by about a foot of snow.

Foot of snow?!  Get yourself a hot cup of   :coffee:  to stay warm, and then when you get to New Orleans, head on over to Cafe Dumond in the French Quarters for more   :coffee:  and some yummy bignets.  And don't forget to partake of some delicious Cajun food!  Lots of good eats in Louisiana and very friendly folk.

Ed Q,

Coffee!?  I went out to the local 3D range and walked the course shooting some old 3D targets, bails, and stumps.  The snow tapered down for a few hours and started to melt.  Now its starting to snow again.  We don't get much snow, but when we do, it dumps.
My plan is to do some shooting while I'm down there.  And once its over you bet I'll be partaking in some fine Cajun cuisine.

What can I say - when I saw the little coffee symbol over by the smiley faces I thought it appropriate considering how cold a snow storm can get!  We don't get much snow in the Dallas area, and having once lived down on the Gulf Coast, I know for a fact New Orleans definitely doesn't get much, so I'm fairly sure you'll get some warmer weather than up in Washington.

Anyway, if you haven't done so already, check out my other thread in this folder asking about places to shoot near New Orleans.  Have a fun trip and enjoy the food and stump shooting in Louisiana!

If they're still open, Bayouland Bowhunters is in Lafayette.  They have an indoor range with one of those DART machines as well.  Range is ok, I'm not a huge fan of bag targets and theirs were pretty worn.  Think it's like $10 an hour to shoot.  They're personable enough but cater to compounds.

Thanks a bunch, Larry!  I just googled them, and they're fairly close.  If work sends me down there, looks like I'll have a place to shoot from time to time.

Forgot to ask, and sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is a DART machine?

One of those movie screen hunting simulators.  Uses a blunt tip on the end of your arrow.  Not sure if theirs is up and running or not.  I saw it, but they didn't offer it up for use.

Ah, gotcha.  Never heard of anything like that.  Working or not, if they have a place for me to practice I'll be happy.

Thanks, Awbowman.  I'm now in Lafayette, great town by the way with good food, but have been working kind of late.  How late do y'all stay when you meet Wednesday's at 5?  And how late is Bayouland Bowhunters open?  I just called them, but there was no answer, so I'm assuming they close before 7 pm?

Sorry I didn't see the post.

They stay as late as we want on Wednesday.  What are you doing for lunch?  Call me at 337-501-0373.  A group of hunters I belong to are eating some seafood for lunch tomorrow.
