Draws?
« on: July 16, 2014, 04:56:00 PM »
Anyone get any good news regarding the hunting draws that come out today?
I got antlered moose & I hope the rut co-operates so I can "uuohhh" in a bull to recurve range!
I'm also pumped about the newly created archery elk opportunities in a couple of the prairie zones. I know it won't be easy to get within recurve range of a bull elk but it sure will be fun trying.

Sorry Scott,
Not good news on my end, no Sheep and no Turkey tag for me this year !!
Seems to me there is something wrong with our "new" system.
Regards.
Bert.  :scared:

if a 14 year old applied this year for 408 sheep it could take 35.5 years to get drawn...he would be 49 years old....
great system ,,,and the outfitters keep getting the tags year after year ....its all about money..not hunting for Albertans....

quite sad

855 applicants ahead of your 14 year old brad including 999 guys.

Divide that by the 5 year quota and you get 171 years.

Ill take my chances with the 410 rodeo.

I just looked and my math is way off.

This tag is still a total waste of time for anyone with 0 priority.

In this area we do not have to get in range of a bull elk...the season is for both antlered and antlerless animals...just wish I had the time and ambition to get out there and locate some animals...gonna buy a tag anyway just in case...nice to be able to hunt on a general tag

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

with these odds...what is the point in a person initiating a draw if he has no chance for 35 years...the Albert govt guys have to rethink their draw system....make it like the NHL draft....based on your priority you have HIGHER odds of getting a tag....but first timers still have a chance of less odds...

example proirity 9 has a 40 % chance
                 8 has a 20 %
                 7 has a 10 %
etc till a 0 or 1  has a 1% chance.....then there is a point in applying

decided to 999 everyting this year.   Anticipating a busy fall with work, and i'm pretty determined to not let the local elk shut me out again.  May be last year with 3 point or higher.  Gov't  talking about next year making it 6 point.

Probaly not with recurve... She might get a 50cal round ball out of the flinter... More than likely Danny will use his really longbow made by Sturm ruger and company... Don't have a lot of time

410 Non Trophy Sheep ... I will enjoy the hiking.

Wainwright late season Dec 8... two tags either sex... Has anyone got a suggestion as to where is a good spot, I've never been up there.

314 Antlered Mule Deer.

I 999'd Elk and Moose because I'm in school this year.  If anyone want to do some hiking in the hills I wont be able to go till after Sept 17th.

Good Luck

I got 6 point elk, and antlerless whitetail in  one of the mountain wmu's so old cheffy is going to lose some weight this fall.  Also got the first season for deer at wainwright, it's the primitive season so one day with the bow to see how it goes and then if it looks bleak the roundballs are going to start rolling.

If anyone else has the first season in wainwright I'd love to partner up with them as my intended partner didn't get the draw.  The lucky guy will be patrolling the hills in 410 for a trophy ram.

Good for you Tracy.
If you shoot just half as good as you did last weekend at the HCJ .. . You will regain weight after the season is over. Yep I can already visualize all those wild game feast.....

So we have a great opportunity to freeze our butts off hunting cow elk in February...I know I am up for that...maybe gonna look silly showing up with a recurve but then again maybe not...I am working hard on getting the 9 bucks together to pay for the tags just in case I get drawn

Damascus dave, respectfully I suggest that this is a cull hunt.  They NEED to reduce the population of elk on the base.  I've heard of guys using archery equipment in the 212 late elk season and the farmers just don't want to give out permission to them, again it's because it isn't a recreational hunting opportunity, it's for herd reduction.

Theres also a requirement on the base hunt to register your weapon, they might not even accept our measly bows.  It's also going to be a gong show, with people driving all over and hassling the animals, some hunts aren't condusive to our beloved archery gear.

I hope this post doesn't get deleted because of the firearms implication, it's a good bit of information for us bowhunters to consider before entering some draws.
