West of Blue Ridge trad bowhunting
« on: December 18, 2016, 03:01:00 PM »
Hoping to find a doe for the freezer before end of ML season (but with longbow).  Anybody have experience with Highland WMA or GWNF?  Don't want to steal your spot, but would welcome general suggestions or at least what areas to avoid.
thx

i hunt a lot of the GWNF just over the Bath line. The Highland WMA has some steep areas that keep most people down low near the private land (McDowell side). Not usually a lot of pressure during bow season but you may see a few people during ML season. If possible take a day or two and go scout now. The deer have been making a slow comeback the past few years (poor mast crops and harsh winters) but the bear seem to be plentiful in both Counties.
