Madison area trad newbie
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:40:00 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm trying to get into trad shooting, but don't know anybody else in the area that does it.  I'm relatively new to the area, and probably not permanent due to work.  I live south of Madison between McFarland and Stoughton, if that helps.  I joined a gun club (Hope Rod and Gun), which gives me great outdoor archery opportunities, but no indoor. So it's hard to shoot right now!  :)

I was wondering if anyone can suggest places to go, especially to get trad insight.  I currently have a 50# Bear Montana, but it's too much bow for me so I'm trying to find something in the 25-35# to work on form and learn on. I haven't found an archery store around here that seems helpful (Little Jons doesnt know much about trad gear, and the one in Oregon rubbed me wrong already).

Any thoughts on where to go for some help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks--Brandon

Welcome Brandon. You are in the right place. We have our banquet coming up in a couple weeks. Look for the info on another thread here and make it. There will be vendors there as there are at our shoots. This is where we do a lot of our shopping. We are always glad to help. We have a number of members in your area as well.

Brandon, you aren't far away from me - I live in Lake Mills.  Closest place with much trad stuff at all would be Dale Moore's shop in Janesville.  But there will be a bunch of it at our banquet in Madison on Feb. 16th.  Still time to get in on that if you can.  It will be a great time and a chance to meet a bunch of trad shooters.  Even if you can only come in for the afternoon it would be well worth it.  Hope to see you there!

Brandon,
Like Greg and Joe mentioned, if at all possible try to make it to the Wisconsin Traditional Archers banquet on February 16 at the Madison West Marriott (actually in Middleton).    You will find all things traditional in the state: bows, equipment, but most importantly PEOPLE.   The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.  If you would like some more information you can go to Wistradarchers.com and follow the links to the banquet information.
I know if can be a little intimidating just showing up to a large group.  I know it can be for me.  You'll find lots of folks to talk to and visit with.

Hope to see you at the banquet. I'll be the one running around looking like I don't know what's going on. You'll have the opportunity to connect. with many new friends and some of the best bowyers around and from Wisconsin.

Come on out to my shoot this Sat at Sherwood Forest. There is info on another thread here. This would be a good place to meet a lot of us. Should be a number coming from Madison.

Hi Guys!  Thanks for the responses.  I'll see if I can make the banquet!  Obviously I'm not going to make the sherwood shoot (it's right now and I'm working at home!).  Hopefully I can make another soon!
