The Wisconsin Outdoor News web site is conducting a poll that asks this question.
"Do you think crossbows should be legalized for use during the archery deer season?"

The poll is a bit misleading since they already are legal for the disabled and those over 65. My guess is that this question

really means "Legalized" for everybody. Please take the time to vote NO and pass this along if you wish.

That's odd. I checked the online poll several times each day right up until the end and it was exactly 70% VS 30%

I saw it as 70 opposed as well right at the end.  Of course with the liberal "mainstream" press, by the time the lawmakers read the news it will be 70 in favor...

WON and editor Bortz are hardly "liberal" press.  Even so many hunters have issues with bowhunters and this can be seen as a way to stick it to them.  They opposed more gun hunting opportunities with Oct T-zones (even when moved to a more bow friendly time), EAB, plus all the BS that went on with the CWD committee.  But don't fret about this, the WBH has set us on a course that will bring crossbows to the archery deer season sooner than later.

It's called a crossbow season which they seem to support in the "lesser weapon" proposal.  I bet it even runs concurrent with the regular bow season.  So yeah they can claim they kept them out of the archery deer season!

Mark, I wasn't referring to the W.O.N.  I was referring to the regular media which the legislators will be reading.  I'm sure not too many of them read the WON as it doesn't translate into votes for them until some hot potato issue from sportsmen/women make it that way.  I've read the WON and agree, it is a good piece to read.  Sometimes we don't agree with some of the stuff written however.

Yep, most legislators are clueless on almost anything hunting related and will do whatever they are told by other hunting legislators.  The big concern is the Bear Hunters Assoc lobbyist and former state senator Bob Welch and crossbows.  He has big ties to legislators who have their own ideas on hunting seasons and methods, and the rest of the legislators have a history of following whatever these guys say.  I guess the big question is is he lobbying for expanded crossbows use right now?  After all he now has the backing of the WBH since the board voted to support the lesser weapon idea.

Welch has been lobbying for keeping deer baiting legal for the bear hunters as well.  Strange, a few years ago the Bear Hunters stayed away from both of these issues, now that they have Welch they are all in.
