Stumping the Kettle
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:22:00 PM »
I was wondering if it's illegal to stump shoot in Kettle Moraine.

Thanks in advance

That is a good question.  I'm not sure this is a complete answer, but I just looked at the small game regs. and found where it does prohibit guns of any type on public lands unless there is an open hunting season, but there was no specific mention of bows.  So I couldn't find anything thing to prohibit it.  But to be sure I would suggest calling the DNR.  The general information number is 1-888-936-7463.  Maybe ask for the number of your local warden.

Here is a link to lands open to hunting in lower Kettle Morraine.

I have contacted the DNR regarding the "no target shooting on public land". I have it in writing that archery "stumping" is not considered target shooting (explained as "meant for guns").

So stumping is OK on public land in Wisconsin.
