What Traditonal Equipment Do You Use?
« on: September 25, 2006, 10:52:00 AM »
On an informational topic for everyone, what bow, arrows, broadheads do you use? What is your set up? Right now I'm shooting a Hoyt GameMaster at 58 lbs. at 29 inches. My arrows are my own cedar 11-32 stained with 5 in. fletching. I also use 7 in. arrow wraps, they are around 520 grains. I hunt with 100 grn. Bodkins, 3-blade. I harvested a buck on Sept. 17,06 with this combination. Shane

60" Morrison Shawnee w/ Dakota limbs 56# @ 28".  Beman ICS Venture 340 arrows w/100 gr steel insert and Wensel Woodsmans mounted on 123 gr adapters.  I've also got a set of Arapaho limbs that match the Dakota in length and draw weight.  My back-up bow is a 62" Northern Mist Baraga 57# @ 28" with the same arrows.

Black Widow PLIII Longbow, 54#@28, Cedar and Birch arrows 29", 160gr. Grizzly BH.  Cedars are a little over 600gr., birch arrows are 720-740gr.  Use a side quiver and love it.  Went with the birch arrows for an elk hunt last year.  Experimenting right now with carbons (Carbon Express).  Mostly hunt from the ground, and occasionally portable tree stands.

Jim Ricole...didn't think there was anyone in the same county as me that shot trad.  I live between Suring and Mountain next to the Res.

Good luck all,
Ken

Right now I'm shooting the gamemaster, but I also have a habu takedown and and a marriah thermal that I just got this summer. My bows are all around 50 at 29. I used to shoot heavier bows, but after several neck and shoulder surgeries I had to go lighter. I absolutely love the gamemaster. I shoot woodsmans with goldtip 3555 with 50 grain brass inserts for an arrow weight of 485 grains. I shot a doe 3 weeks ago with the gamemaster and it performed well.

Jim, you and Ken are talking about an area that I'm a little familiar with.  We have kinfolk in Marinette County: Marinette, Middle Inlet, Silvercliff (Athelstane), Wausaukee and Amberg.  Small world...

Jim,

I'll be. We probably know some of the same people...maybe you know my sister and brother in law.  Jackie and Al Miller...they live in the old Hintz bar, she's owned it for quite a few years before shutting it down and turning it into a house.

Kevin,

Small world is right...how often do you get up this way?

bruin 52" recurve 54# @28
Big River 66" longbow  61# @28
Pittsley Predator 60" recurve   56# @28 "

Typically my own wood arrows.  Been using WW's and really like them.    Hate bow quivers but have a few anyway cause at times, they are the only way to go.  Love my shoulder quiver but it is loud.   Love skwerl hunting with nutters.  Like stump shooting best of all.
Chuck
