New bow and a weekend hunt
« on: October 31, 2011, 04:07:00 PM »
Hey everyone. Wanted to share some pictures from this past weekend. I got a new Predator recurve 60@28". I love it. Shoots extremely fast and has nice simple lines which I personally like.

Also, my partner in crime, Tony(chopx2) and I went out to Prettyboy reservoir. Saw some deer and lots of snow but didn't get any shots. I hope everyone else is having a great season!

Enjoy....

Looks like a good place to hunt. Good choice with the Predator bow.

Nice looking bow!

I hunted all that day also....brutally wet and cold.  I had a poplar branch come down and almost knock me from the stand!

Dang hope you're doing ok.

And yep once the hands got wet from the slushy snow it just became a battle to stay warm. The deer sightings did perk me up a little though.

Branch just missed!

Yes, my friend and I saw 10 deer that day....none in range unfortunately.

I am getting chills just thinking about that day!

How did the the weekend fair?

Friday was windy as heck and I only pushed one out of the bed on the way in the woods in the bright moonlight.

Sat morning  I saw a doe about 80 yards away checking on a couple scrapes but she never came near my stand.

I did have this dumb deer from this years birthing group about 12 feet from me on the walk out..... but is was so small and dumb I let it walk.

Haha those young ones aren't too smart.

Friday was really windy. I saw one doe bust and then a few minutes later two guys on atv's came through the woods  :(  great! that pretty much ended Friday.

Saturday was fairly eventful. I had three does feeding in the woods about 40 yds behind me. they were feeding my way and I was getting ready but they hit my trail in and bolted outta there. Around 11am I had a button buck feed right under my stand! I was looking at him through the grate of the stand. Saturday evening nothin to report.

Sunday was a heart breaker! i learned a lot though. A doe fed in but never gave me a shot. She was feeding directly below me but I didn't want to spine her. Waited ten min and she finally eased off about 15yds to my left slightly quartering away. i picked a hole in the leaves to shoot through and let fly.... smack! my lower limb hit the cable supports on the stand and the arrow wobbled harmlessly out.... wow I felt like such a newbie.
My good friend Dan Mathis made good of this weekend though, our stands were about a quarter mile apart.

Good job Dan!!!!

I can relate on the limb hitting the stand thing....happened to me a few times.

Good deal passing on the straight down shot.  I one lunged a doe like that back in my compound days and searched for 3 days.  I suspect it recovered but not a high percentage shot.

Aint this stuff hard  :knothead:  ....and fun

Yes! on both accounts. I'm pretty hooked. Wont be picking up my guns anytime soon.

And I need to practice shooting out of a stand! One of these days I'll put it all together. This last weekend was the first time I've ever had deer within bow range, let alone get a shot opportunity.

Once again good luck to everyone   :archer:
