Parkton Zone A - Thoughts, Observations
« on: September 22, 2011, 09:37:00 PM »
Hi all,

Took out my Saluki Scythian to Parkton Zone A.  Spent a total of roughly 16 hours out there over two days and explored around the stream north, east, and west.  Used natural blinds for posting at about 2 hours each day.  Nothing.  No spot stalk opportunities or anything like that when moving out.  Older hunter told me that spot and stalking in this area is a waste of time and that tree stands are a must in this zone.  I'm not a firm believer in the concept that a tree stand hunt always equals to seeing activity as I've seen plenty of wandering tree stand bow hunters in some of the hunting zones I've been to and some going back to vehicles empty handed.  Case in point, I went elsewhere today and had three spot and stalk opportunities.

So my question is whats up with Parkton zone A?  I noticed the deer scat seemed older and sparse in relation to carrying capacity, and that alot of berries which theoretically should have been eaten already in this zone were not.  Had trouble finding good deer trails as well, only came across one that lead to nothing.  Are the deer just very wary, and elusive here or are we talking about something else here like say maybe a lower population in this particular zone?

Wondering cause I'm tempted to write zone A off for the season.  If anyone has hunted here before and is willing to share thoughts and observations please do so as this area stumps me a little.

Thanks,

Matt
MJ

Matt,

I do my best over there after the leaves fall on a rainy day.watch for them to bed and make a stalk.it works, you just have to hit it at the right time.theres better public land for spot & stalk then zone A.
If you cut up your wife's french leather purse to make a tab, does that make you a redneck?
