Here's a perfect shot on a hog quartering away from a tree stand (hog lived 8 seconds and went 60yards)

And here's a perfect shot on a hog from ground level (hog lived about 4 seconds and went nowhere)

George shoots straight too. Thanks Ferret.

Lance P, with all your climbing abilities, speed and adjility you'll still be a ground dweller. Aint a tree for 100 miles of where you are going to be. You might can find a tall cactus to perch on though.

All B.S. aside. I've hunted hogs all my life. Killed literally hundreds and hundreds with a variety of methods. I've only been attacked a couple of times. False charged many times. Been real fortunate those times too. The last attack happened a few months ago and left me feeling like an under-educated school girl. Never have I thought I'd loose my life to a pig. I thought for a few minutes that I might. Shwew! I have found that complacientcy(sp) can be your worst enemy. Id become comfortable on the ground with these critters and had let my guard down. I was quickly snapped back to reality and danger these animals are capable of as a wounded boar ran over the top of me from behind. Oh, it was very dark too and I had only a flashlight and steel toe boots as my weapons(my mistake). I solomly vow to never become so comfortable with pigs as to become complacient again.
This was my lesson! The truth of the matter is that pigs will run instead of stand and fight almost 100 percent of the time. The thing to remember is that there is always 1-2 percent that wont. Respect the animal and dont put yourself in the position to become the hunted. Shoot the pig get away and let him die. If any doubt about the shot, let him lay longer. When tracking at night never, never, never shine a light into the eyes of a wounded tusker. He WILL ATTACK the light. Other than that shoot all you can and have lots of fun doing it. There is no finer animal on the planet to bowhunt than pigs as far as Im concerned. Just my 14 cents worth. Curtis

Curtis what you spoken about pigs charging is the truth for Spanish pigs like you are used to in Texas and we are used to in Florida. Maybe 1 in 10 will mean you harm the rest will just want to get the heck out of there. 200 pounds is a real biggun. I found the same thing to be true of Javies..for the most part they will scatter like quail, but every once in a while one wants to test your mettle and cut up your calves.

Now Russian/Europeans stock hogs on the other hand like found from Tenn across to Arkansas can get up over 500 pounds and can act like you just tinkled in their breakfast cereal. They will stand, bristle up, look at you with disdain and come stomp your butt. You better have a tree handy if'n you don't want to get anything but your boots cut up.

Hog Hunting Rules....I grew up the mountains of Pennsylvaia hunting whitetail, turkey, bear and just about everything else that was legal to hunt and then I traveled to Texas.....and went HOG Hunting...I loved it the first time back in 1990 and till this day...Wild Hogs are one of favorite animals to hunt with a sticknstring...I have gotten into a few tangles with hogs and they are definitely harty animals. The are challenging enough for the best of archers and there senses are keen....There vision is good, but there sense of smell...keen. Down here in Texas I have seen a lot of farmers hard work ruined in one night of rooting by hogs...They are eating machines and work fast...Sneaking in one is a lot more difficult than sneaking in on 10...Lance I know you will enjoy the hunt...Keep the wind in your favor and with your experience....You will do fine...Enjoy the experience...cause you wont forget it!!!!!!!!

Chris I havent weighed them at a archery store but if'n the scale my friend has was right....they are a little over 550 grains...i added a length of leather lace....same as the stuff used for boot laces and got em to 600 grains and it really didnt affect the spine.

Thanks Lance, that's about what I figured.  I've been wanting to try a heavier carbon and have been looking at the CETH shafts.  I appreciate the info......Chris

Don't want to but in on Huntsmans' thread but what do you folks think of shooting a hog with a snuffer?  I'm going to Texas in March for the first time and plan on taking my normal deer hunting rig. 62" CM Hunter II, 65@31.5", 32" 2419's with 160gr snuffers on em (about 750gr).  I figure it's gotta be plenty but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks, Stick
