Title: Georgia hunter needs Ohio Info
Post by: frankwright on September 25, 2008, 03:40:00 PM
Hi folks, I am a longtome member of the Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia and a friend and I are spending a week (October 10-16) in Scioto county this season.

My brother has a small farm there and he is not much of a bowhunter so he can't provide much help on what the deer might be doing that time.
I assume it is too early for any rutting activity? If so we should probably concentrate on food sources?

I appreciate any information, Thanks

Hunt the Oak ridges and any other available food in the area, that'll be your best bet. Bucks won't start chasing for another couple of weeks, but they'll be there.

frank i'm from alabama, lived 20 minutes from tenn, so i hunted there a lot. i've lived in ohio (clermont county) for 22yrs. in my oppion hunting is much easier here with the huge fields, and small wood lots. find there bedding and food source and hunt the trails leading to them.there's always trails, and rub lines 20 to 30 yards in the woods along fields. the good bucks will be there until dark. you may not see many huge bucks but you will see bucks. good luck

Younger bucks will answer grunt calls that early. They are VERY eager! Acorns are dropping early this year. I would agree with finding the oaks, but the acorns may already be gone.

I just noticed my old post got bumped up recently.

I saw a good many deer but few shooter bucks that time.

I am actually going back tomorrow and even though it will be a little warm in the afternoon, I hope to see more activity.
Thanks for the advise.
