Title: It's Giving Tuesday........so
Post by: Greg Owen on December 01, 2015, 10:58:00 PM
I decided to give. I have been away for 5-6 years from Trad Gang. Before I left, I had acquired 4 'nice' bows. I have a Griffen TD longbow, a Kanati lonbow, a Black Swan Wave (longbow??) with wood handle, and a ....nope, not going to tell you - YET.  This last bow is a 60" longbow that is spec'd at 54# @ 28".  I would like to give this bow to a new home. I will even pay the shipping.  I would like to limit this giveaway to people who have only one bow or who have never shot a higher end bow. So if you'd like to enter, please reply in this thread with the bow you currently shoot and what bow you dream to shoot.  I will pick a winner on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015 at 9pm Pacific time and ship the bow to them. I will post pics of the bow then too. There is one problem with the bow that I know of. It lacks a 57 1/8" string.  The winner will have to supply that. Best wishes to all and to all a Happy Holiday season.

I've got lots of bows and not in need of another. But I would like to say, Kudos to you on your generosity. This is an extremely selfless act on your part.

You will not find this anywhere else!

Win this bow or not, I compliment you on this gesture.  Of course I would love to win this bow!

I'm a new "returning" traditional archer who bought a compound around 35 years ago and just this a couple of months ago decided to come back to my roots of traditional archery where it originally began.

I sold the compound and now own a Hoyt ILF/ Axiom recurve to learn and practice but will be hunting with a longbow next season.

Thanks for the opportunity and thanks for sharing, no matter who the lucky winner is.

I'll throw my boonie in the ring.  I am new to trad this year and fairly new to bow hunting. I almost went with a compound and then I found tradgang and the amount of info and good folks made trad much less daunting.  Right now I am shooting a Samick sage at 45# until I get my form good enough to justify a nicer bow.  I have never shot a longbow and would love to own one. Something about that classic look just speaks to me.  If I get the bow I will eventually pass it on down the line so someone else can enjoy it.  Good shooting to whoever gives this bow a good home.

I’ll throw my name in the hat too. I think it is a very noble gesture for you to give away a bow.  I just recently returned to traditional archery.  I’m shooting the bow I had as a teenager.  An old Bear Kodiak hunter 60# at 28”   I pull 29” and I’m way over bowed!!  I just turned 60 and seemed to have lost some strength.  I’m in the market for a new bow though.  Just trying to justify the expenditure. I love every aspect of traditional archery.

Wow!  That's great!  I shoot a Bear Grizzly I bought in January.  It's 50# at 28", and I think I pull closer to 29".  I have also made a self-bow out of red-oak as a first attempt at bowyery, so I reckon that disqualifies me to be in the running, but I think what you're doing is awesome. Congrats to the lucky winner!

I would like to put in the name of my son-in-law Brandon Chislom.  He works 70 hours a week in grounds keeping.  Doesn't have a computer.  And, is in the delivery room right now for his first son.  He has a passion for traditional archery.  His old bow blew up on him last year.  I doubt he ever will have a high end bow. This would be a awesome gift.  I have a string for him.  Thanks for the opportunity.  Jeff Harper

I started converting him over this spring to traditional and he really enjoys it. The problem is he always borrowing one of mine.

Pretty cool and what a treat for someone.  I would like to enter if I may.  I have one bow; a BW PCH Greybark.  Bought the bow used and really like it (shot my first critter, a yote last week).  I would love to one day shoot a Schaeffer Silvertip.  I have never shot a longbow.  Thank you for your generosity.  Sam

I'll throw my name in here.  Im a trad newbie, but I have a Ben Pearson cougar on the way to my house right now. I have not ever shot a high end recurve or longbow, so I can't really say what my dream bow would be. Even if I'm not selected for this, that's one heck of a nice offer and I'm sure somebody will be very happy.

Greg, I'm going to withdraw my name from winning the bow as I see others here who could benefit more from the free bow than I, and I'm buying one for myself.

I highly compliment you sir for the thought, your kindness, and your generosity.

Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas and Holiday Season.

Greg-

Thank you for the kind gesture!  That is just pure awesome of you.

Currently I am shooting a 45# @28 Gary Taylor Longbow.  I did have a nice savings fund going for a new bow, but seems as though I share a similar giving heart as you, I took the $300 fund I've saved and bought my father-in-law a Samick Journey and fletched him some arrows too.  We do that Christmas at Thanksgiving, and boy was he tickled to death.  Not often do you see a stubborn grown man tear up, but he couldn't hold back.

My dream bow to shoot would be anything made by Henry Bodnik.  I really enjoy all their videos and believe they make quality archery products.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to receive such a fine gift.  That would just be awesome!

I would love to be in. I have a bear grizzly and soon to have a Montana. Never really shot a high end bow save for once at a range I got to shoot a few through a bear take down and it was amazing.  If I'm disqualified because of Montana I just ordered that's cool. But just in case I'm not I have always wanted to shoot a tomahawlk long bow. I don't know many custom bows and such so that's the dream right now. Just got back in sport 3 month ago and am here to stay. Thanks for doing this.

Wow, what at generous thing for you to do! I'm pretty new to traditional archery and currently only have one bow, a Samick Sage. I've been shooting traditional archery for about a year now. Earlier this year I was able to take my first ever deer and I did it with my Samick Sage at about 18 yards! I'd love to have the Black Swan bow! I dream of shooting a Black Widow bow since I have read nothing but good things about them, especially how smooth they are to shoot. However, they are out of my price range, but maybe one day. Thank you for performing such a generous act!

Just another example of the great people here at Tradgang! I have no bow to shoot at the moment so put me in please. I've only shot bows I've made or made by others. The last one had a nasty break. I could also help with a string if a B50 flemish is requested. Just let me know

Ill take my chances with this.

I have been shooting my Samick Sage 50# since 2012.  Seems quite a few of the others are using the same bow as I am.

If I could go get any bow right now, I would go get a longbow from Tom Parsons at Kimsha, one of his is the only longbow I've ever shot and it was nice.

Good luck, everyone!  I have to say I am surprised and delighted by the generosity of the members on tradgang.

Thanks for the opportunity, Greg!

Not for me, but I have a Viet Nam Vet friend who is 100% disabled.  We used to bowhunt, but he has given up hunting.  It could be a way to encourage him again.  He is suffering from early onset of dementia or  Alshiemers.  Frankly speaking, I don't know if he could do shoot it or not.

If he was selected, I would provide him with appropriate arrows and shooting glove or tab as he prefers.  If it is out of the realm of his abilities, I would pass the bow on.

It would need to be no more than 40# or so.  In any event,  whether he is the recipient or not, thanks for a wonderful gesture.

That's very generous of you Greg.
I currently shoot a 1965 Kodiak 53# @ 28".
I hunted for Colorado elk with trad gear the entire season this year. My buddies thought I was crazy. Still do... No shots this year, but some very close encounters with some big bulls. Still have yet to kill an elk after 4 years, but I will never go back to shooting compounds. Trad just feels right. I am already excited about next year...

What bow do I dream to shoot?-I want to shoot every bow that I see.
I would really like to shoot a Toelke Whip sometime.

Thanks for the chance!

I'd like to toss my name In the hat. Currently shooting a 1970s grizzly.  Only shot 3 bows in my life, the grizzly, my old minuteman I gave to my brother, and a friends Montana longbow so it is hard for me to say what my dream bow would be. However I have been longing to try out a 59 Kodak and a shrew longbow.

If my name is drawn I will gladly pass my grizzly along to an inspiring archer in need of a bow.

Greg,
It is at this time I would like to remove myself from the pool.  Long story short my Bear Montana just ordered became a Bear Patriot, so now I am the very proud owner of a high quality long bow @ 65lbs.  And as much as I would love to win another possibly even better bow it should not go to me.  Thanks again for doing this Greg and good luck to all the contestants.

Dave,
Thanks for your honesty and integrity.  Can you keep a secret? I have shot alot of bows and my second most favorite was a Bear Montana.  Why? Because I could hit where I looked more often.  Accuracy is what makes traditional archery fun for me. So it's not how much the bow costs, or how pretty it is, its about the marriage between bow and archer. All marriages talke work, sometimes alot of work.  Greg

Haha Thats great Greg.  I actually shoot my grizzly very very well.  I am very happy with the shots I get from it.  I got the Patriot today and it has that crappy bear string on it and it already shoots great.  I have two great setups and that is two more than a lot of people out there.  Anyways once my string from allen arrives I'll be in super shape.  And even with the Montana I would have had two great setups.  Something was wrong with the Montana from the factory and it was the last one thats why I ended up upgrading to the Patriot.  Anyways as long as I am able to fling trad arrows I am going to consider myself fortunate.  I have a secret too Greg.  I am another probably very rare traditional archer vegetarian. LOL

Very cool thing to do, I would like to humbly put my name in the hat, 3 years ago I put down my wheel bow and haven't touched it since, been shooting a #55 Samick Sage since then and never regretted the switch.  big thanks for putting this opportunity out there for everyone!

Almost forgot what I dream to shoot, gonna have to say any of the Hill style bows, but there are so many amazing bowyers out there I can't pick a favorite.

Dave, your vegetarian comment is somewhat funny, very unique, and something I rarely mention, especially in hunting circles.

I am about a 95% vegetarian myself, especially after reading the book 'The China Study".  That book really opened my eyes and actually pi$$ed me off a bit.

Since I do eat meat and dairy very rarely, my daughter who is also health and fitness oriented calls us "Flexitarians".

I'd like to enter this giveaway too!!! So impressed by the generosity of so many people on here lately!

I have one recurve, my dad's 1963 Hoyt Pro Custom, 66" and 45#. I've actually never shot it, because I don't have arrows yet.

I'd really like to shoot a Hill Style longbow...something about the simple form draws me to them.

Thanks,

LOL
Dave
Dave, your vegetarian comment is somewhat funny, very unique, and something I rarely mention, especially in hunting circles.

I am about a 95% vegetarian myself, especially after reading the book 'The China Study".  That book really opened my eyes and actually pi$$ed me off a bit.

Since I do eat meat and dairy very rarely, my daughter who is also health and fitness oriented calls us "Flexitarians".

It is difficult to describe the difference in how my body feels and reacts when I eat meat and when I don't.  Keep up the good work, Dave. [/b]
My wife and I are flexitarians as well. I'm lactose intolerant so that's out as well. I hunt because my parents and in laws love deer meat and I love being in the woods. We operate by a when in Rome philosophy. If we attend a friends house serving meat and cheese we eat and are thankful. I don't force it on anyone and feel great and keep a great deal of weight off doing it. Anyways I too have read the china study and I just feel better this way. Good to know there are others out there.

Greg,

I suppose some of these guys haven't been around Trad long enough or recently to keep track with some of the Who's Who's of custom bows.

But some lucky winner will learn tonight!  Boy this is like playing a game of CLUE towards the end.

This bow is named like a state but it is minus the North or South. And it's limbs are black and covered with snake.

I don't fit the criteria of the drawing (I have 3 bows and they are customs) but man, am I curious who the lucky winner will be and what, exactly the bow is!
Fantastic!
Good on ya, Greg!

Not a fantastic gent here, just a blessed guy. I figured I could sell it and lose money and feel bad, or give it to a new home and brighten someone's day. Actually, during this contest I got to brighten 2 people's day.  It is definitely more blessed to give than to receive.  So the real winner here is me!
