Title: Totally Traditional again
Post by: Dog Walker on December 15, 2013, 09:48:00 PM
Today I sold my two Onieda compound bows.  One, I hunted with for over a decade and the other was a backup. For what it's worth, I shot it instinctively off the shelf.  I have bounced around a lot in my 40 years bowhunting. I had hunted with a longbow, compounds but took most of my animals with a Blackwidow recurve.  I'm not totally sure why I switched back and forth so much but looking back, I had way more fun with my recurve.  It's a great feeling to be back, shooting totally trad.  Sometimes, I felt like I was  on another planet, in a no-man's land. I wasn't really a trad guy or a compounder.  I didn't fit in any where.

Atta Boy. Welcome back.
I shot compounds for 2 yrs in the early 70s. Nothing but grief for me.

It's interesting, I've only shot about a dozen shots out of those contraptions.  I never had one but I do love to laugh at the grief people put themselves through to have sights and a let off.

I'm with you Gun. I shot compounds for prolly ten years off and on before totally committing to the stick bow. I always struggled. I just never could get the hang of sights even though I could shoot a gun with iron sights. I like simplicity and the stick bow just looks "right" in hero pictures.
