Title: Pheasant hunting
Post by: Maze on November 21, 2009, 08:18:00 PM
Has anyone tried to stick a pheasant? If so how was your luck? I have 3 4-fletched flu-flus. I wonder if 6 fletched would be better? Any advise would be appreciated.

Myself and a few fellow trad gangers have in the past with some luck. I like to use 3 6inch feathers or 4 4inch.

We need to do that again this year!
Just my opinion but a 6 fletch might just be a little slow on wild birds but would work given the situation. I think 4 fletch works best 4 or 5inch. Slower is easier to find though!

What do you use for arrow heads? Broad heads, Judos?

I went to the in-laws for Thanksgiving today.
I took my bow and tried pheasant hunting. I used a broad head with an adler behind it.
I didnt kick any birds up because I was by myself and I didn't have my dog. There was standing corn surrounding the field I was hunting so I'm sure that didnt help either.
It was nice to get out anyway!

What part of Nebraska are you frtom? I use B/h's and usually whatever is handy field tip with a washer behind it works well to.

I'm from Fremont. It's good to see other Traditional shooters so close to home.
I need to get about 6 more flu-flu's dipped in white with blaze orange feathers. Something that really makes them stand out. Maybe I can add a Lumanock to them so I can go back at night to help find my lost arrows.

Broadheads without my dog but usually judos or even condors, 38 special cases with a slot cut in and a piece of hack saw blade works good too, just like the ace heads, hexblunts work well too.
Heck Fremont! you're right in between me and jim, i live up here in Scribner and Jims down in valley, we'll have to let you know when we do our annual bunny hunt up here, coming up.

Yeah, we're not too far away from each other. It should make it easy to get together sometime. I'd be in for some bunny hunting if time allows for it. Our 4th baby is on the way shortly.
Using broad heads is the reason my dog (Tanner) stayed home. I would hate for something to happen to him. Maybe I'll try blunts......
